Happy2vaca Evaluation of vacation destinations, complete with photos and suggestions to make the most out of your travel budget. PS - I also love taking pictures!

Hello and welcome to the club of happy vacation goers! I created this company because I feel blessed and grateful that at this time in our lives, my husband and I get to travel frequently. Disclaimer: I am not retired because I cannot afford my vacation habit (plus I'm way too young). For at least the past two decades, I have "centered" myself each morning when logging into my computer for work, u

sing a pw that incorporates the next travel destination, while my desktop background pic is a photo taken from the last adventure. It starts my day with a smile and motivates me to do my best on the job so I can keep traveling. I don't skimp when it comes to spending money on a vacation because it is my reward for working hard, however, I do enjoy getting a good value for dollars spent. I have learned a few things (sometimes the hard way) and wish to share them freely for whomever wants to follow me. It is my guilty pleasure. The cover shot was taken at St. John (USVI) in August 2013 and the pro pic was taken while snorkling at St. Maarteen (Dutch side) in February 2023. So in addition to sharing advice about destinations we've gone to, I'll also post my favorite photographs from each place.

Trip Taken: January 2026

Things that were GREAT: The facility itself was very new and very nice. Beach was expansive, easily walkable and plenty of soft sand (no shells and no seaweed). Many people drug their chairs closer to the water and under the shade of trees and bushes however our group enjoyed the cabanas and stayed near the pool and hot tub. The entertainment staff was phenomenal. There were fun (FREE) activities to do every day like candle making, decorating hats, and braiding colorful yarn bag tags. However the highlight was a water ballet show done right in the pool in front of us with a truly acrobatic and beautifully choreographed routine! The exercise activities were equally impressive. Spinning on bikes IN the pool was a great work out to help negate the calories from some very good meals.

Things that were just OK: Some of the restaurants had servers who spoke very little English so the commuincation was difficult at times, and the service was slow. Everything is slow in the islands but this was way beyond "normal." It rained every day, just for about 20 minutes, but it always seemed to happen at night right when the night time entertainment was about to start. Most of the performance stages did not have cover so unfortunately the rain forced bands and acts to pack up and leave for the night.

Things I recommend doing: Snorkling Boat Trip! There was more to see underwater than I was expecting. Always my favorite day of vacation.

Things that were GREAT: Beautiful boutique like campus - small and well landscaped. Felt very private, yet there was no issue finding chairs by the pool. Walkable beach. UVC club had a dedicated bartender and the drink menu was fantastic! I tried them all! Fun free activities like dancing lessons, wine tastings, and archery classes!

Things that were just OK: Because of the close location to the locks, you could see the ships lined up to pass through them, which was very cool, however when you consider that there is a constant line of vessels, and it takes days / weeks to get through the canal, those ships are surely emptying their sewage into the water which eventually flows toward the resort. Therefore the ocean off the resort was not one I would swim in.

Things we did right: Hiked the "jungle" via a guided tour which is right off campus. Beautiful old trees and families of sloths are just hanging out. Visited the canal and attended the movie of it's creation. Must go into the city - especially old town! The architecture of the buildings is lovely. Tons of quaint shops and restaurants. We went back into the historic part of town twice because it was so good. Never made it to the newer "skyline area" of Panama City - which is HUGE! Very modern and I'm sure has much to offer as well. It is definitely the city of two extremes.

Trip taken: February 2025

Things that were GREAT: The sunsets!! No better place to see them then right from our own beach. Our room! The private beach cabanas were availabe for UVC club members free of charge. The snorkling right off the resort was truly fabulous - the best I've ever experienced that close to a hotel. (Due to a metal platform that was unusable and an otherwise eye sore but made for amazing sea life).

Things that were just OK: (all very fixable things - note the resort had been recently aquired by the Dreams brand so these things may have improved by now) The UVC club kept running out of certain our favorite kinds of liquor (Vodka, Gin) plus no dedicated bar tender. The no smoking policy was not enforced. Kids were frequently in the "Adult only" Hot tub. Poor rain water drainage in Portofina's restaurant. No Bird wires present over the outdoor grill area so there were frequent unwanted guests on the serving tables.

Things that we did right and would recommend:
Drove into downtown area. Fun shopping and atmosphere. Drove to several other beach / snorkle spots. Each one better than the next. Charming island to explore but nothing is really walking distance from the resort - rent a car!

Trip taken: September 2025

Things that were great:
Dreams Corfu's food was one of the best we've experienced compared to other Dream's resorts. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The mountainous views from the resort were special. Plenty of seating and shade available throughout. The Dreams staff and people in town were very friendly and welcoming. The neighborhood surrounding Dreams Corfu was charming (completely safe) and we easily walked off campus to shop and experience the local restaurants.

Things that were just OK:
The beach was good - not the white sands of the Carribean but there was no seaweed plus there was a decent amount to walk on. Water was fair - certainly very pretty to look at and crystal clear once you got further out. However not too many varieties of fish or coral to see when snorkling, it was not worth bringing all the snorkle gear for this trip. The preferred club pool did not have a view and was awkwardly situated. We stayed at one of the main pools and it was fine. The preferred club lounge did not have it's own bar-tender so we either made our own or carried in from the lobby bar. Probably the only thing I truly regret was not being able to see a sunset (we faced East).

Things we did well and would recommend:
Excursions! Took a day trip by ferry to see Roman ruins in Albania. Took a day sailing trip around Corfu. Took a speedboat trip around several islands and stopped for lunch on Ereikousa. Walked and shopped the streets in downtown Corfu, climbed a fort, and visited a sweet chapel. However our fondest vacation memories were dining at the local family run restauarants in the little town right outside our resort. Special shout out to Restaurant Vergina and Iliada Beach Restaurant which had amazing food and atmosphere. Yet the ultimate dining highlight was when we were pulled away from our quaint little table to dance around fire with the Greek owners of Aries Taverna!

Travel HINT: Bring Euros - American cash is not accepted like it is elsewhere so tips in dollars mean little to those who would appreciate them most.
