Four million years of wind and water carved this labyrinth of sandstone towers in Área Natural Única Los Estoraques – one of Colombia’s smallest and most surreal national parks in Norte de Santander. Just a short walk from La Playa de Belén, the trail winds through canyons, caves and rock pillars that feel like hiking on another planet. Mild temperatures around [17]–[23] °C and mostly dry weather make it perfect for a half-day hike – just bring water, sunscreen and stay on the paths (snakes are part of the local wildlife).

Today I visited Finca Victoria, a historic coffee estate founded in 1892 in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, now operating as a “living museum” of coffee.
Here they grow high‑altitude arabica coffee organically and sustainably, under shade in the mountains and tropical forest, taking advantage of the unique microclimate of the Sierra.
During the tour you see the full process: from the coffee plants and their ripe red cherries, to the selection of the best beans for premium export coffee.
The most impressive part is the century‑old machinery, powered entirely by water, which pulps, ferments, washes and dries the beans while preserving their flavor and avoiding chemicals.
The visit ends where everything begins: with a freshly brewed cup of coffee at the farm itself, surrounded by landscapes, nature and more than 130 years of coffee tradition.
If you’re in Santa Marta or Minca and you love coffee, this stop is almost mandatory to understand Colombian coffee right at its origin.

After a lot of paperwork, port days and ship tracking, we finally picked up our overland rig at the port of Cartagena, Colombia.
Rolling out of the terminal onto South American soil feels like the official start of the next stage of this Pan-American journey.
From here it’s Caribbean vibes, colonial streets and a lot of dusty kilometers ahead – let the Colombia chapter begin.

Waking up in the Klosay community, sharing stories with the Ngäbe-Buglé families, and then hiking through deep green jungle to reach Cascada Alto Chorro felt like stepping into another world. From the roar of the waterfall to learning ancestral ways of roasting, grinding and turning cacao into rich, homemade chocolate, every moment here is about land, culture and connection. Grateful to be welcomed into their homes, to learn, to sweat on the trail, and to taste chocolate made right where the cacao grows.
