Hi there, thank you for looking in on the boat yards work shop fb page, we have a Z class on the shop floor and a Silver Fern being tidied up at the moment + a couple of project boats in the yard.

Just a reminder to look in on the boat yards archives fb page -Whangateau Traditional Boat Yard -if you can help with any snippets of maritime history in the Omaha district or reminisces of the Whangateau boat yard we would love to hear about that.

Also we have a group page Whangateau Traditional Boating Club - inviting a network of 'friends to the Whangateau boat yard' to share basically any NZ maritime history to the group, by region, or class sailing dinghys - yachts - short end keelers - launches and fishing boats - restorations - preservation... Much of this data is compiled as a resource for the boat yard and is offered back to the public. A small amount of sailing and boating is had from out of the boat yard and bay.

For now while the sun shines get out there and enjoy some boating. Thank you for supporting the Whangateau Traditioal Boat Yard.

Regards

RUM RUNNER

Our first glimpse of this carvel planked launch. 23 -25ft.
We know she was fished out of Leigh by Tim Hall (SKIP JACK charters) - Sold to Tony McCarthy then with his passing his son took her on and has had her for forty years, not used but shed stored for a few years.
She appears to be professionly built. Carvel planked and copper fastened. The fishing gear has been removed from the cockpit. She has carried a sailing rig.

So some further inspection and planning required but she shall come to the boat yard for the repairs to be carried out and she shall be made ready for the water by both the owner and I - A side line project to the main jobs at the yard presently.

We would love to see some photos of your wooden boats from your albums - you can join us on the Whangateau Traditional Boating Club face book page and post them there.

Take care all and see you soon.

This is a really functional and pleasing way to use a navy whaler hull. It is a fibre-glass hull.
