Leave yourself time. The Coast has a habit of slowing you down.

Stop for the view. Always.

Out there is where the good stuff happens.

There’s something about getting away from the hustle and bustle of the daily routine and heading out onto the trail.

A bit of climbing. A bit of mud. Maybe some rain. Hopefully a decent weather window.
Then you find yourself standing somewhere that makes all the effort worthwhile, with nothing but mountains, bush and big West Coast skies in front of you.

The Paparoa. The Old Ghost Road. Two very different trails, but both with plenty of good reasons to get outside and see where the track takes you.

Take your time. Look around. And enjoy being out there.

A bit of snow. A lot of blue sky. And views for days.

Kate recently took on the Paparoa Track, using our vehicle relocation service to make the logistics a little easier.

There was a bit of snow under the wheels on the tops, but clear blue skies, crisp conditions and those big West Coast views made up for it.

This is why we love the West Coast. You never quite know what the trail is going to serve up.

The Paparoa Track isn't one to rush. Whether you're walking it or riding it, there's plenty to stop and look at.

Rainforest, limestone cliffs, river valleys and big views out towards the Tasman Sea. Then there are the little things you'd miss if you were racing through - the native birds, the history and the way the landscape keeps changing around you.

Take your time. Stop for a breather. Have a snack with a view.

The Old Ghost Road starts out in the middle of nowhere - which is half the attraction. But it does mean you've got to put a little thought into logistics.

After talking to the boss who hiked The Old Ghost Road last week we are reminded that the Old Ghost Road doesn't give its views away for free.

There's a fair bit of climbing, and sections where you'll wonder why you thought this was a good idea. Then you round a corner, the valley opens up and you're reminded exactly why you came.

From old gold-mining relics to high alpine ridgelines, deep river valleys and some seriously good hut spots, the Old Ghost Road is one of those rides that stays with you.
