Message to Our Valued Customers, Drivers, and Supporters Across Wellington
1 November 2025
Kia ora Wellington community and fellow Wellingtonians,
Today marks a deeply emotional moment in Kiwi Cabs’ long history of service to our city.
Driving past Wellington Airport this morning and seeing the rank empty of Kiwi Cabs vehicles — once filled by more than 100 of our drivers — is a sad sight for all of us who have proudly served airport passengers for many years.
Many will remember that in 2010, Kiwi Cabs and other local operators stood together to protest similar changes that affected fair access for smaller taxi companies.
This event was publicly reported at the time — see:

Fifteen years later, we again face comparable challenges impacting our drivers, their families, and the community we serve — yet our values of fairness, service, and integrity remain unshaken.
For the record, Kiwi Cabs has always supported the FIFO (First In, First Out) system at Wellington Airport.
It has proven over many years to be the fairest and most transparent method of taxi rank management, giving equal opportunity to every company and every licensed driver, regardless of size.
This matter has now been formally referred to the New Zealand Commerce Commission for independent review.
We will fully cooperate with the Commission and await their findings before making further comment.
This statement is issued solely to protect Kiwi Cabs’ reputation and the reputation of our drivers, and to keep our customers and the Wellington community accurately informed.
Kiwi Cabs remains fully operational across the Wellington region, continuing to provide safe, reliable, and professional transport for all passengers.
💛 Looking ahead, we promise our customers, drivers, and Wellingtonians that Kiwi Cabs will return stronger — delivering the best service in Wellington, powered by our new AI-driven IVR booking system and next-generation mobile apps designed to make every ride smarter and faster.
We deeply appreciate the loyalty, professionalism, and resilience of our drivers, and the ongoing support of our customers and the people of Wellington.
Together, we’ll build a fairer, more innovative future for Wellington transport.
Ngā mihi nui,
Kiwi Cabs Management
