Have you checked your vehicle is safe before heading away ?

Here are our top tips:
πŸš— Make sure your vehicle has a current Warrant of Fitness or Certificate of Fitness
πŸš— Make sure your vehicle(s) licence (rego) and road user charges (RUC) are up to date and will be current for your trip away
πŸš— Check all your lights are working, including the indicators and brake lights
πŸš— Make sure your tyres are correctly inflated and have good tread depth (over 1.5mm). Don’t forget the spare!
πŸš— Clean the front windscreen and wiper blades, check there are no chips or cracks in the windscreen too
πŸš— Make sure your vehicle jack, wheel brace and basic tools are in the vehicle, and you know how to use them
πŸš— Get a high vis vest so you can stay safe if you need to stop at the side of the road
πŸš— Check the engine oil level is above the minimum indicator on the dipstick
πŸš— Check the condition of the engine oil. It shouldn't appear dark, thick or sludgy
πŸš— Check and, if necessary, top up the window washer fluid level.

There are other fluids in your car that you can check yourself such as engine oil, coolant or brake fluid. Or if you’d like someone else to take care of it, pop into your local VTNZ branch and we’ll be happy to help.

You can do all your regular car maintenance at your local petrol station. Or, if you choose to come to us, one of our Automotive Technicians can do a Maintenance Check at any time. We can even do this at the same time as your Warrant of Fitness inspection.
