Let's all spread some positivity today to support the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. Stand up against bullying!!!.

It's Pink Shirt Day this Friday!

And, alongside Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, we'll be standing up against bullying.

But let's not wait until then to spread some positivity.
Send a compliment to a mate (or better still, say it in person).

Today. Tomorrow. Any day.

𝟮𝟴 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 | 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲.

Today we acknowledge 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 — a time to remember workers who have been killed, injured, or made ill because of work.

We also mark the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸, led by the ILO, which reminds us that these harms are 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 when systems, leadership, and legislation genuinely support safe and healthy work.

The ILO estimates that psychosocial harms cause 840,000 deaths annually (cardiovascular diseases and work-related suicides) and are responsible for a total GDP loss of 1.37% per year.

In New Zealand, a WorkSafe study found that 40 suicides every year are work-related. These are not recorded in WorkSafe’s official statistics of 50-60 deaths per year. Stress at work is also responsible for significant rates of heart disease, stroke, alcohol and drug abuse.

We need to do better. The current HSW Amendment Bill takes us backwards by ignoring these risks. We’re calling on the Government to recognise psychosocial harms as critical risks.

Anzac vs ANZAC - what’s the difference? 🤔

ANZAC (all caps) refers specifically to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps - the original military formation at Gallipoli in 1915.

Anzac is used for everything else, including Anzac Day, places like Anzac Cove, and when referring to the soldiers themselves.

For example:

‘On the Western Front there were two Anzac corps, with New Zealand Division serving in II ANZAC Corps until 1918. New Zealanders who died in war are remembered on Anzac Day.’

A small detail, and an important one in how we honour the past.

Learn more about Anzac Day, local services, and how to pay your respects.
