Tairua Ferry Services Tairua Ferry Services provides a convenient, quick way to access Tairua from Pauanui.

Runs school holidays in Winter (depending on weather and patronage) & from December 26 through to Easter. Bell Air is a catamaran licensed to transport 50 passengers within the Tairua Harbour area, including the Pauanui Waterways. Outside our normal timetable, the ferry can be chartered for harbour cruises and waterways tours.

The ferry captain has decided that it's time he retired. This means that unless anyone would like to take the ferry over, the operation will cease forthwith.

Ferry Operation: Monday 19 January to Thursday 22 January 2026. We have reviewed the forecast for both wind and rain, and have unfortunately had to make the call not to operate during the upcoming storm. The wind forecast in particular is outside our safety operating parameters. We will reassess and advise if it's possible to operate on Friday 23rd of January. Thank you.

URGENT MESSAGE TUESDAY 7 JANUARY
The ferry has an unhappy injector pump on one engine. Richard from Ocean Adventures has kindly offered to help out. So, if you are at Pauanui wharf at 6.20pm, he can take you to Tairua Marina; if you are at Tairua, go to the Tairua Marina and he will take you back to Pauanui. His berth is the first one on the Marina, be there at 6.20pm.
