🚜🌾 PTS Logistics was proud to support the NZ Young Farmers Grand Final – Practical Day, where our team was on hand to facilitate one of the competition modules and help showcase the skills, knowledge, and professionalism that make New Zealand's next generation of farmers so impressive.

It was a fantastic day filled with tough challenges, great teamwork, and outstanding talent from competitors across the country. We're honoured to play a small part in an event that celebrates the future of New Zealand agriculture.

A huge congratulations to Tom Slee on his decisive Grand Final victory! šŸ† An outstanding achievement and a well-deserved result after an incredible performance throughout the competition.

Well done to all the finalists for their dedication and determination, and thank you to FMG Young Farmer of the Year for another exceptional event. We look forward to continuing to support initiatives that invest in the future of our rural industries.

Celebrating 50 Years of PTS Logistics - A Look Back

The early 1980s marked a defining chapter in the history of PTS Logistics.

Peter purchased a six-car transporter from Slak of Tokoroa Towing and before long, a second six-car transporter joined the fleet. This was the turning point when the business really began to take off.

With two six-car transporters on the road, Palmerston Tow Service was able to move much larger volumes of vehicles than ever before. We could efficiently transport both damaged and new vehicles opening the door to new opportunities, stronger customer relationships and continued growth across the region.

It was during this period that the business evolved from a small operation to a growing transport company with the capacity to meet increasing demand and take on larger contracts.

Around this time Peter's father Bert - known to many as Poppa (pictured below) became an integral part of the team. He first worked in the yard on West Street before moving with us to Rangitikei Street.

Bert was always the first to arrive each morning, greeting everyone with a smile and ready to tackle whatever needed doing. No job was too big or too small and his kindness, work ethic and willingness to help left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Looking back, the investment in those first two transporters laid the foundation for the company we are proud to be today.

Jake Mora (known as Frodo to most) finally got the keys to his Kenworth T610 SAR last week and wasted no time putting her to work - pictured here with his refurbished MTE 3 rows of 8 widener and a new Hitachi ZX290 grapple machine for Norwest Harvesting 🤩

Frodo started his journey at PTS in 2008 as an apprentice diesel mechanic but once qualified decided he’d rather spend his time behind the wheel of a truck than under the bonnet. He hasn’t looked back.

Starting out in curtain siders running nationwide to now spending most of his days in and out of forestry blocks, his knowledge and experience is second to none.

We look forward to seeing the impressive machines you move and the impressive places you go, Frodo!

Thoroughly deserved šŸ¤

As we continue celebrating 50 years of PTS Logistics, we move now to the late 1970s.

The era of disco, denim and a popular slang phrase ā€œKeep on Truckinā€™ā€ - and that’s exactly what Peter did.

He purchased a V8 TK Bedford , fitted with a portable boom and hook to carry a second car. Things got really serious when he then brought a single axle semi car trailer that could carry 3 cars at one time!

Palmerston Tow Service were proud to be among the early line haul operators moving vehicles across the country. You were only allowed to travel a distance of 40 miles against the rail unless the vehicles were damaged. In those days ingenuity was everything - even to the point where distributors were removed in running cars to classify them as ā€œnon-runnersā€ if ever stopped by the police.

There are plenty of connections from the road from back then, including a working relationship and friendship with John Crowther from C&E Motors. He would travel around the country sourcing damaged vehicles to sell to wreckers, operating himself out of Hamilton. Cheques were famously addressed to ā€œPalmerston Slow Serviceā€ - a bit of humour that still gets a smile to this day!

From those early days to the modern fleet we operate now, the journey has been built on hard work, innovation and great people.

Here’s to 50 years of moving New Zealand - and to the road ahead 🧔

Our very first K220 with an MTE Widening Trailer hit the road prior to Christmas with Lance behind the wheel šŸ˜Ž

Lance hopped out of a 2017 K200 with over 730,000kms on the clock, and it was absolutely immaculate. A genuine reflection of his pride and unwavering work ethic.

Travel safe Lance! We know that unit is in good hands!

1976 was a big year.

Manawatu claimed the Ranfurly Shield, beating Auckland 12-10 and in the same year Peter Broughan went into a business partnership with Roger Denton. This marked the beginning of Peter’s journey at the helm of what was then called Palmerston Tow Service.

They operated out of a site in Rangitikei Street, and the photo below is one of three Bedford tow trucks that came with the business. He had one single car trailer.

Fast forward to 2026 - We are proud to be celebrating 50 years on the road!

Over the coming months we will be sharing photos and stories from along the way.

Come along for the ride with us as we head down memory lane and celebrate the people, the places and moments that shaped our journey.

Thanks for being a part of it 🧔
