Saturday 16th May 2026 dawned bright and cool. Not a puff of wind. The long-awaited day had come...

Since moving to these premises 3 years ago we continue to improve our facilities to better deliver value to our customers. We have an engineering workshop with lathe, mill, and welding capabilities - all with access to 3 phase power, water and air.

More recently a concrete slab has been poured but THIS has been, possibly, the most anticipated improvement. It was time to raise the roof.

Having a roof is a game-changer. Covering enough area to accommodate up to 24m spars, it provides an all-weather shelter enabling work to continue in the rain, and coatings will be able to be applied, with shade from the midday summer sun.

Of course, it also providews an excellent spot for the occassional BBQ - a theory we tested out to thank our team of volunteers.

We are enormously grateful for the help and expertise from Pete, Gordy, Brian, Adam from Adam's Crane, Nev Shields from Nelson Marine Services, Nonie from Ship Shape Nelson, Kim Bonham-Carter and Nelson Marina CEO, Drew, who brought his young son Ted along. Ted definitely took away best dressed award in his hard hat, hi-vis and tool belt!

AT LAST!!

CorrosionX Max Wax is here! It's challenging to get pretty photos of what this product does, because it's designed to be grunty.

Max Wax is a tough, synthetic wax-based, resilient corrosion inhibitor barrier coating that provides long-term protection for metal surfaces. It forms a smooth, even coating for maximum protection underwater and in the harshest environments.
Max Wax dries faster than other wax-based corrosion inhibitors and it will not harden, crack or lose resiliency even in sub-zero temperatures. It can withstand temperatures exceeding 200˚C / 392˚F. All in a days work …

A small hardware issue, created a big problem. The grub screws holding the top section join of the furler had worked loose, protruding into the track and preventing the headsail from being able to be dropped.

In this picture, team member Dave is climbing the 35m mast to then descend down the forestay and address the issue.

As part of making sure it does not happen again, we also checked every other join, removing and applied Loctite to each grub screw, the reccomended assembly procedure from the manufacturer.

We were happy we were available to pop over to the Nelson Superyacht berth and fix this quickly for one of our visitors.

"Brilliant! Easy to use, and actually does what it says on the bottle. Best used on a warm overcast day so it doesn't dry out while it's working its magic. It's thick so you can paint it on to any angle and it won't run off. We found, for best results, removing loose or flaky rust first meant only one application was needed. We applied it with a clean paint brush and when hosing off half an hour later, helped the product along with a toothbrush in the threads and turnbuckles. It also worked a treat on getting rusty streaks out of fibreglass. Would recommend wearing protective eyewear against flicked back product and always shake the bottle! Would 100% recommend"
