Vigilantes Target Traffic Enforcement: Mobile Speed Camera Trailer Abandoned to the Tide at Ruapuke Beach๐
โRUAPUKE โ this evening a sophisticated mobile speed camera trailer has almost been written off after being towed to the waterโs edge at Ruapuke Beach and left for the tides to claim but fortunately for NZTA they didn't get close enough to the shoreline for that to happen
โThe incident, which a nearby local resident called an extreme act of anti enforcement vigilantism, occurred this afternoon. The advanced trailer typically deployed on high risk Waikato roads to monitor vehicle speeds, was reportedly packed down and uplifted by an unauthorized vehicle then towed to the beach and subsequently abandoned after it got stuck on the soft iron sands of the West Coast ruapuke coast line fortunately locals were quick to inform police and a nearby rural police utilty vehicle from raglan responded and was eventually able to pull it out to safety
"This is not just a case of simple prank it could of led to a significant loss of high value road safety equipment "The deliberate placement of the trailer which looked to be in the path of the tide suggests a calculated effort to ensure the unit was totally destroyed๐ง
This is now the 3rd incident in the wider Waikato region in the span of a few days with other permanent and mobile cameras being targeted in Matakana and around the auckland region last week and over the weekend
Citizens are being urged if they see people acting suspicious near or around any of the 150+ mobile speed cameras to report the incidents to authorities immediately
