There is no such thing as too cold weather, just the wrong clothing. Our pilots are kept warm this time of year when the temp drops below 5 degrees most of the day with our Stoney Creek NZ jackets.

A lofty goal to eradicate Stewart Island/Rakiura of threats to native plants and wildlife is picking up speed.

“Difficult? Yes. Impossible? Don’t think so. Worth trying? Definitely,” - Te Puka Rakiura Trust general manager Darius Fagan l.

Six species were on the hit list for eradication: possums, feral cats, hedgehogs, kiore, Norway rats and ship rats.

Stewart Island Helicopters is looking forward to seeing this begin and hope we can see and hear the difference with reduced pests numbers and increased species such as the southern dotterel, tīeke (South Island saddleback), Rakiura Tokoeka (southern brown kiwi), harlequin gecko, pekapeka (long-tailed bat), plus flora and fauna.

Job Vacancy in Te Anau

We have a space available to work as part of our office adminstration crew.

Main duties include:
- Phones
- Emails
- Client contact/front of house
- Flight coordination of our helicopters.

You will be based in our office at Te Anau Airport, and also work from our Milford Sound base as needed.

It is a full time position to begin in May 2024. Full training will be given. Days of work as per a roster and it will include some weekend work.
