We always love welcoming Mark and crew to Hokitika Airport ✈️

The Flying Doctor team provides such an important service for our community, and we’re proud to play a small part in supporting their work. 💙

Mark's been dreaming about planes since he was about five years old.

He loves his job as a pilot with the NZ Flying Doctor Service. His favourite destination? The West Coast, where he says they always get such a warm welcome.

"𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆," 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀.

We’ve now completed the full evaluation of the Work Together Stay Apart (WTSA) campaign, carried out in partnership with Massey University School of Aviation.

The survey, conducted after WTSA finished in mid-2025, captured feedback from 634 participants. Most were male pilots of fixed-wing aircraft, with an average flying experience of 24 years.

Seventy-six percent of respondents perceived unattended aerodromes as safer since the WTSA campaign started, and seventy-eight percent said their behaviours at these aerodromes will now be safer.

You can read the full report to see what people said, what worked, and what could be better to keep strengthening safety across the sector.
