Nicole has just come back from a 5 weeks South American adventure where she spent the most amazing time in Peru, Bolivia and Chile. She encountered countless historical, cultural and natural highlights along the way.
Peru is such a divers country. From lively cities like Lima and Arequipa, warm & coastal areas and offshore islands, deserts and sand dunes, high altitude plateaus in the Andes mountains dotted with llamas & alpacas, the lush, humid Amazon jungle to the Inca’s and pre-Inca’s history, the mysteries of the Nazca lines, Rainbow Mountains and Machu Picchu, one of the world’s wonders, this country offers incredible places to explore.
Bolivia on the other hand is less touristy but appeared to Nicole as very much underrated. While momentarily unsettled by protests, it offers unique experiences like the otherworldly Uyuni Salt Flats – the biggest Salt Flats in the world! – untouched nature where you only get to by 4x4 and a moved history that led to Bolivia having two capital cities: Sucre is the constitutional and historic capital while La Paz is the administrative capital and serves as the political seat of government.
Chile is the longest country in the world, stretching roughly 4300 km from north to south, which gives the country remarkable geographic extremes. On this trip, Nicole only get to see the Atacama Desert in the far north, the driest desert in the world, and the dynamic, cosmopolitan capital city of Santiago de Chile. On a next trip, she definitely wants to see stunning Patagonia in the south!
While all three countries can be visited independently, a guided tour makes it easy for you (especially if your Spanish isn’t top-notch), lets you connect with other like-minded travellers and gives you that extra security to go out and explore.
