We have an unplanned outage affecting the following areas Waione Rd, SH 35 south of Te Araroa, Whakaangiangi, Kopuapounamu, Maraehara, Poroporo Tikitiki, Rangitukia, Mangaoporo, Waiomatatini, and East Cape. Our fault inspectors are enroute to isolate and start restoring supply.

The power is currently down in Pehiri Rd and Stafford Rd in Gisborne, in Rototahi, East Coast and Raupunga, Waihua Valley Rd, Mohaka Rd, Ruakituri, Ohuka, Te Reinga in Wairoa this morning. Our crews are working to restore the power to these areas as quickly as possible.

UPDATE - WATCH LIFTED!

Ohhh, it’s gotten very dark out there. MetService earlier issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH through to 9am this morning, for right up on our border with Bay of Plenty. It’s just starting to rain out there with the odd flash of lightning and thunder, so keep an eye out for localised downpours. Stay safe out there whānau!

Our team continues to work to restore power in these areas:
- Wharekiri Rd, Waimoko Rd: power back on early this afternoon
- Whakaangiangi Rd, Kopuapounamu Rd, Awanui Rd
Tutamoe Rd, Kaiaua Rd: - power will be restored by later this afternoon.
- Panikau, Matakoa, Ihungia and Lottin Point: power will be restored on Sunday.
- There is currently a planned outage as we repair a fault on Waingake Rd Paparatu Rd Tarewa Rd Waugh Rd Gordon Rd Shanks Rd, power will be back on by this afternoon.

10:45am: We are working to restore power to Panikau and Waimata Vly today and also hoping Matokitoki Valley will also be restored today.

9am: Our team continues to work on the remaining faults on the East Coast and our aim is to have power restored today to customers on Kaiaua Rd, Tutamoe Rd, Hokoroa Rd, Whakaangiangi Rd. Customers in the areas of Haig Road, Ihungia Rd, Arero, Lottin Point and Awanui Rd should have power restored on Friday.

Our crews have been working hard, often involving helicopter access, in challenging conditions to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We know how difficult this is and really appreciate your patience while we get everyone reconnected.

Kia ora, over the past 72 hours, severe weather has impacted around 8,200 customers across our network. As of this afternoon, less than 100 customers remain without power. The majority of outages were caused by trees falling onto lines, and while 90 percent of customers were restored within 24 hours, the remaining faults are in isolated, hard-to-access locations on the East Coast, and require more complex repairs, which may take until Friday.

Kia ora, approximately 1,900 customers remain affected by severe weather across Tologa Bay, Hicks Bay, Waimata, Rototahi, Te Araroa, Tauwhareparae, Muriwai, Mahia, and Gisborne. Our top priority is restoring the 50kV high-voltage sub transmission to stabilise the wider network. Once this work is complete, crews will shift focus to the regional 11kV lines.
Restoration in some areas is expected to take longer due to challenging land access conditions and the extent of damage in remote rural locations.

Kia ora, we are currently experiencing a high number of outages across the region in various locations. Due to road closures and the weather conditions we are unlikely to restore power to these areas tonight. We will resume work at first light tomorrow.

Kia ora, MetService New Zealand has issued orange heavy rain and strong wind warnings for parts of Tairāwhiti, Hawke’s Bay, and Taihape this Sunday, with intense rainfall, severe gale winds up to 130km/h, large swells, and possible coastal inundation, plus a chance of escalation to red. A yellow heavy rain watch is also in place, so prepare now by checking on whānau and neighbours, clearing drains, and having supplies ready for at least 5 days.

Morena whanau - here's the latest in from MetService this morning.
The main change is for Gisborne/Tairawhiti, north of Tolaga Bay where there is an ORANGE HEAVY RAIN WARNING AND MetService are now forecasting 120-150mm of rain about the ranges, with 70-90mm closer to the coast. Expect peak rates of 25-45mm/hr in localised downpours on Sunday afternoon. So the overall rainfall forecast has decreased, the localised intensities have increased. There is now a LOW chance of upgrading to a red warning.

The ORANGE STRONG WIND WARNING for Tairawhiti is now in place for 17 hours from 9am Sunday through to 2am Monday.

MetService has upgraded some of our warnings. Here’s the lowdown.

There’s an ORANGE HEAVY RAIN WARNING for Gisborne/Tairāwhiti, north of Tolaga Bay for 14 hours from 2am Sunday through to 4pm Sunday. MetService are forecasting 150-180mm of rain about the ranges with 70-100mm closer to the coast and peak rates of 20-30mm/hr. Large swells and coastal inundation is likely. There is a moderate chance of upgrading to a red warning.

There is also an ORANGE STRONG WIND WARNING for Tairāwhiti, Hawke’s Bay and Taihape for the 16 hours from 10am Sunday to 2am Monday. MetService are forecasting severe easterly gale changing to westerly Sunday afternoon or evening, gusting 130km/hr in exposed places.

And . . . a YELLOW HEAVY RAIN WATCH for Tairāwhiti about and south of Tolaga Bay, Hawke’s Bay ranges and coastal hills south of Napier for the 16 hours from 2am on Sunday through to 6pm Sunday. Expect periods of heavy rain with amounts possibly approaching or exceeding warning criteria. Large swells and coastal inundation are likely.
