From tomorrow, we are expecting some action in the Inner Harbour Marina as work is carried out to remove redundant piles out the front of Lonestar. This work is expected to take two to three days and will remove a potential navigation hazard and support future harbour operations, including preparations for a tug berth on Wharf 1.

Specialist marine vessels, including a tugboat and crane barge, will be operating in the area. During vessel movements, there may be brief and temporary restrictions to access within the harbour channel between Wharf 8 and the Inner Harbour Marina.

🥇 Historic first 🥇

On Monday, two 180m long vessels berthed next to each other at Eastland Port for the very first time.

Twin Berth is our biggest infrastructure project in over a century, and a huge milestone for Tairāwhiti. Twin Berth will:
🌏 Support Tairāwhiti’s economic growth, with more options and flexibility for our local industries, exporters, importers and cruise ship operators.
📦 Open up new opportunities for coastal shipping.
🔄 Future-proof a vital Tairāwhiti transport route.
🔗 Provide all-important resilience and connectivity for our region, for generations to come.

As a local company, we’re incredibly proud to be delivering projects like this, which will benefit the whole community.

So many people have contributed to the success of Twin Berth, and we want to thank all those involved.

Over the next few months, the final piece of the puzzle will be completed with the extension of crane-strengthening beams under Wharf 8. Once this final work is finished, we’re planning something special to formally bless and commemorate the completion of Twin Berth later in the year ... watch this space. 👀

‼🚢 A FIRST FOR OUR PORT TOMORROW 🚢‼

Today, for the very first time, we’ll have two 180m log ships berthed side by side at Eastland Port.

It’s a huge moment for our Port and our region so if you're around, come on down and you’ll be able to watch history unfold...

👀 Best viewing spot: across the river by the apartments
⏰ From around 11:30am, Monday 23 March

This is of course weather dependent so we’ll post an update in the morning with timings ... but if you’re around, come down and check it out!

This is just the beginning of what Twin Berth makes possible. 🙌

🤩 Maiden Voyage – Snow Flower 🤩

Yesterday, our Assistant Marine Manager/Pilot, Brett McPhee, presented a plaque to mark the maiden voyage of the 158m Snow Flower (Pictured on the right).

Fresh from the shipbuilders in Japan, this specialised re**er vessel will take away 1,400 pallets of kiwifruit from Tairawhiti.

‼️‼️ And in even more exciting news… for the very first time in port history, we’re welcoming two 180m log ships alongside next week! ‼️‼️

A decade in the making, this is a huge milestone by unlocking the ability to berth two loggers at once and supercharging our supply chain capacity.

We'll post more updates of the Twin Berth timing over the weekend.

🚢 Our new container handler is here! 🚢

Our container capability has been boosted with the arrival of a new Government-funded container handler, helping provide a resilient pathway to market for regional exporters.

Eastland Port CEO Andrew Gaddum says the investment is about giving businesses more certainty.

“Exporters need reliability. Shipping containers directly out of Tairāwhiti gives businesses another viable route to market.”

Seeka CEO Michael Franks says building local capacity makes sense for the region.

“The fragility of our roading infrastructure is a reality, and it makes absolute sense to invest in local infrastructure that strengthens our economic resilience.”

Dana Kirkpatrick MP for East Coast says the investment shows confidence in the region.

“This is exactly the kind of resilience and diversification our region needs.”

With kiwifruit exports set to move through the port in the coming weeks, Eastland Port is ready to support growers, exporters, and freight partners looking for strong local supply chain options.

Growers, freight partners and exporters interested in exploring containerised export opportunities can contact Eastland Port at [email protected].
