It's great to give back to the incredible team who keep Motu Trails Cycleway open and thriving. We hope this little automated trap allows our beautiful native fauna thrive in the Raukumara ranges. Thanks to all of our incredible customers who contributed. Looking forward to hearing some success stories.
Today on Pakihi Track, volunteer Gary installed an AT220 trap that was generously donated by Cycle Gisborne. This trap adds to the amazing donation recently by RIDE Holidays of a full ten DOC200 traps; plus several previous donations of traps by Bay Conservation Alliance
What this fantastic support has enabled>>
Motu Trails Charitable Trust now have traps along the lower 7km of Pakihi Track while Whakatōhea Tiaki Taiao have traps on the upper 13km Pakihi Track. With our combined efforts, there are now close to 200 traps — regular trapping made possible by the track.
In 2026 alone, combined catches along the Pakihi Track have been: 344 rats, 39 stoats, 2 weasels, 11 possums.
The Urutawa forest has Toutouwai/NI robin, Miromiro/NI tomtit, Popokotea/whitehead, korimako/NZ bellbird, kiwi, whio/blue duck, Hochstetter's frog and more, so it is definitely worth the effort to help protect the forest.
