Dunedin Railway Station is the home of scenic train tours through Otago. From the Taieri Gorge, a world-renowned journey through landscapes shaped by time, to coastal journeys on the Seasider and seasonal event trains, each experience offers a different way to travel through the region. Journeys begin at the station, one of New Zealand’s most recognised heritage landmarks.

✨ GIVEAWAY ✨ Want to walk through a railway tunnel?

We’re looking for 10 people to join us for free on a very different kind of Taieri Gorge journey.

📅 Wednesday 16 September
🚂 Depart Dunedin Railway Station: 9.30am
🚂 Return: 12.50pm

As part of a staff emergency training exercise, our train will stop at Parea House, where you’ll disembark and walk approximately 200 metres along the railway line and through a railway tunnel before rejoining the train.

It’s a rare chance to experience and photograph a part of the Taieri Gorge Railway you wouldn’t normally get to explore on foot.

Please note: This is a staff training exercise, not a standard Taieri Gorge scenic journey. Participants must be able to safely walk over uneven ground, including along the railway line and through a tunnel, and follow all instructions from Dunedin Railway Station staff.

One of the highlights of this year's Taieri Gorge Stargazer was the beautiful short film guests watched while the train was stopped at Hindon.

Set to an original soundtrack by pianist and composer Liz Conway Music, the film combines stunning time-lapse footage of the southern night sky with Winterstellar Charitable Trust's passion for protecting and celebrating our dark skies.

The good news? You don't have to wait until next year's Stargazer to experience it.

Liz will be performing the soundtrack live alongside Winterstellar Charitable Trust's film as part of a series of performances across Otago, including First Church Of Otago in Dunedin, on Saturday 5 September.
