Behind the Scenes: Relocating 8 Poodles to Panama 🇵🇦
Two years ago, we were first approached about relocating a client’s eight poodles to Panama—a request that would turn into one of our most complex and rewarding projects to date.
With no direct routes available for pet travel to Panama, and an outdated agreement between New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and the Panamanian government, we knew this would require extensive coordination. After months of research, countless emails, and phone calls across time zones, we finally received confirmation: a departure date had been booked.
Fortunately, the owner had a trusted friend on the ground in Panama who connected us directly with the official Panamanian veterinary authority. With their support—and the cooperation of MPI in New Zealand—we were able to secure a custom health certificate, tailored specifically for this relocation. This was far from routine and required exceptional collaboration between both countries.
The next hurdle was document authentication. All paperwork needed to be apostilled either by Internal Affairs or the Panamanian Consulate. Due to tight timeframes, Internal Affairs was unable to assist, but the Panamanian Consulate was incredibly helpful and willing to step in. While the process was costly, it was absolutely necessary to meet Panama’s updated import requirements.
This relocation was a true testament to what’s possible with persistence, teamwork, and a little creative problem-solving. At Star PetTravel, we’re proud to go the extra mile—especially when it involves eight fluffy passengers bound for a new life abroad.
It truly took a village to get these pets to their final destination. While there are many people to thank, the key to the success was Brady from Tailwings in Los Angeles, who expertly coordinated the American transit stop and final flights. His calm efficiency and deep knowledge of American international pet logistics were invaluable.
We’re thrilled to report that all eight dogs arrived safe and well—even the 14-year-old! Their journey was long, but every detail was handled with care, and their wellbeing remained our top priority throughout.
They are now settling into 42 days of home quarantine with their very happy and relieved owners in Panama. It’s the final chapter in a relocation that spanned continents, regulations, and a whole lot of teamwork—and we couldn’t be prouder to have been part of it.
