The BoatShed Kayaks Ltd The BoatShed Kayaks Ltd The Boatshed Kayaks, was set up by Richard Clark in 2000 on his property on the edge of Lake Karapiro.

It provides a one stop shop for all your kayaking needs whether, hiring, purchasing, or learning new skills. Karapiro offers an exellent venue with sheltered waters and 15 km of lake to explore. Richard's kayak background is 14 years of Multisport paddling, competing in 11 Coast to Coast races plus numerous other events. The Boatshed has been training grade 2 paddlers for 8 years, with a huge numb

er of paddlers experiencing their introduction to kayaking through The Boatshed. Richard is also involved in many of the other kayak disciplines such as seakayaking, flatwater racing, white water, kayak fishing, so can offer advice on most aspects of kayaking . The ethos at the Boatshed has been based on getting people out there paddling, young and old, and therefore growing kayaking as a sport or recreational activity. For those keen to get some more racing under their belt, the Kahawai Paddling Champs will be held on Sunday 10th May 2026 at Takapuna Beach, Auckland.
This is a great opportunity for paddlers of all ages and stages to get involved!
Heats of 4–6 paddlers race from a start line, around one or more buoys, and back to a finish line adjacent to the start. Races are short and sharp — typically 2–5 minutes — making for fast, exciting racing.
Every paddler will get multiple races across the day as they progress from heats through to division finals, ensuring plenty of time on the water and lots of racing experience.

A fantastic chance to build confidence, sharpen race skills, and enjoy some high-energy competition in a supportive environment 🤩
