What a fabulous day out at MotoFEST at Hampton Downs. Amazing to see the Red Bull Yamaha 500cc (Simon Crafar's 1998 era bikes), the BSL 500, the NZ made 500cc 2-stroke GP bike that hit the world stage just before the shift to 4-strokes, and the gorgeous Britten motorcycle, all circulating with "old" NZ racers like Aaron Slight and Andrew Stroud on board.

This motorcycle has everything. All day riding comfort, a smooth and powerful engine, with excellent fuel economy. 17 litres of fuel has taken me 420km.

Triumph's exciting new Tiger Sport 800 has joined the Auckland Motorbike Hire fleet. After picking up the motorcycle in Nelson, I rode it back to Auckland, taking the scenic route home on the last day from Taupo. This was 5.5 hours in the saddle and covered plenty of different riding scenarios. The bike handled it all well. Great comfort, nimble handling, and no surprises with it being a Triumph triple, an amazing engine. Now that it's back home, the handguards, heated grips, and pannier racks are going on. Also a radiator guard will be fitted. A necessity on Triumphs Tiger Sport range due to the short front mud guard that throws stone at the radiator.

Some of the highlights of the 6-day Northern Explorer Guided Motorcycle Tour in New Zealand. The roads and riding were perfectly suited to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. We rode some beautiful gravel roads and had an amazing ride down the full length of 90-Mile Beach, which is something we can't normally do with a rental vehicle. The routes also include the wonderful, winding roads of the Mangamukas, Old Russell Road, and through the Waipoua Forest.

Day 5 of the 6-day Northern Explorer Guided Motorcycle Tour. More beautiful beaches, blue sky, and fun roads.
On reaching our overnight destination of Opononi, we dropped off the bags and went for a little ride down the road to visit Tane Mahuta, the magnificent Kauri tree in the Waipoua Forest.

Day 4 of the 6-day Northern Explorer Guided Motorcycle Tour has us leaving the Bay of Islands and experiencing the thrilling ride over the Mangamukas. The extreme camber on this twisty section makes.for some fun riding. A stop at Houhora Honey Bees for a delicious Paua pie before the ride to the top of the North Island, Cape Reinga. On a clear blue day, such is this, it is incredibly beautiful.
It was then on to 90-Mile Beach at the Te P**i stream entrance. A cool ride down the shallow stream, past the giant sand dunes to reach the beach. A 100m section of soft sand made for plenty of laughs, as we all struggled, and every bike was picked up off its side at least once. But we all made it and enjoyed the firmer sand of the beach to ride all the way to Ahipara. I think it was a special day for all. The day was finished off with fish and chips at the beach, and watching locals do skids on the beach. Aaah, New Zealand. ❤️

Day 2 and 3 of the Northern Explorer 6-day Guided Tour. Departed Waipu Cove and visited the Waipu Caves for some glow worms and caving, then rode some more beautiful gravel backroads before hitting the sealed roads. Some great twisty roads around the Tutukaka Coast, stopping for lunch on the beach at the beautiful Whale Bay. Some more twisties from there and some more gravel to bring us on to the Old Russell Road. This is one of my all-time favourite roads to ride, with kilometre after kilometre of corners. This brought us to our destination of Paihia for pur 2-night stay.
Once again, the little Himalayan shone.

Day 3 was a rest day where we could visit the Treaty Grounds at Waitangi or sit by the pool before experiencing the amazing boat trip out to Motukōkako to pass through the Hole in the Rock.
