501,822 passengers carried between Whanganui and Auckland!

Congratulations to Whanganui nurse Brenda whose guess came closest in our 10th anniversary prize draw and won a trip for two to the Chatham Islands, New Zealand, complete with a classic crayfish dinner on the first night.

If you were one of those 501,822 passengers, thanks. You rock! That's about equal to:

• 10% of the population of New Zealand
• 10x the population of Whanganui
• 836x the population of the Chatham Islands
• 11,000x the population of Pitt Island! (look it up...)

How many passengers will we carry in the next 10 years? Heaps, probably! Our new interline agreement with Air New Zealand means even more reasons to fly with us... what's not to like about booking a trip from Whanganui to anywhere in New Zealand with one booking and one check-in?

The Chathams gets plenty of wind - and now we’re putting its sunshine to work too!

With most of the islands’ electricity generated by diesel, solar provides the opportunity to help local families and businesses lower their power bills and build greater energy resilience.

Together, Air Chathams and Endless Energy have helped turn that opportunity into action.

The first solar systems have now been installed at a local home, Hotel Chathamss and the Air Chathams combined office, freight shed and crew accommodation facility.

Completing these projects more than 800 kilometres from mainland New Zealand brought some unique logistical challenges - but it also showed what is possible when local knowledge, transport expertise and renewable energy experience come together.

These first installations are an important step, and we hope they will show more Chatham Island families and businesses what is possible.

A day to remember. This Monday, Chatham Islands Iwi Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust signed its deed of settlement with the Crown. As an airline born in the islands, we know how much mahi has gone into this over many years and acknowledge especially the work by those who are not with us to see this moment.

As Iwi Trust Chair Melodie Eruera-Fraser said, “We have signed the deed with them very much in our thoughts, and with our children and generations yet to come firmly in our minds.”

As we look back on our journey connecting Auckland and Whanganui, we couldn’t forget this special throwback from our 1-year anniversary on the route!
