Typhoon season is hitting China again. With multiple typhoons arriving back-to-back, ports are experiencing closures, vessel delays, berthing delays, and growing congestion. Shipping lines are beginning to omit some port calls, which is putting extra pressure on already limited freight space.

A bright and beautiful day in Auckland. And as a true JAFA, I must complain about how cold it was this morning. This is the part where you jump in and say how much colder it is everywhere else, and that I'm just soft. I am currently huddled under a Rocket Freight blanket and wishing I still had my Uggs on. Yes, I know I'm soft.

But while I sit in the office with my blankie and my heater and my hot chocolate, the show must go on.

We had some serious pipe unloading at the yard, at over 8 tonne per piece.

We have been turning over containers quicker than the trucks can get them out, and it's great to see the yard being utilized.

🚛 Big week for us here at Rocket Freight! 🎉

Our new unpack depot is officially in action, with our first 10 containers delivered into the new yard! đź’Ą

They're rolling in, and we're turning them around just as quickly. It's great to see the new site already buzzing with activity, and this is just the beginning.

Some more bad news if you're trying to get freight through to the South Island. As a result of severe weather conditions, most freight services are experiencing delays.
Statehighway 1 from Kaikoura through to Cheviot is closed due to flooding, and there are no alternative routes available as inland route 70 is also closed. Multiple inland highways have been affected by heavy snow and ice, and a number of other road closures are currently in place.
Add that to our long weekend for Matariki, along with rail closures from Port of Tauranga, and we're expecting everything to take a bit longer for the next few days. We hope you have a good Matariki weekend, enjoy your family time and we'll worry about getting your freight where it needs to be as soon as we can!

It may not look very impressive in it's custom made capsule, but this jet turbine has travelled all the way from Canada to New Zealand, and when you're transporting cargo of this value, there is no room for error.

Our team worked closely with engineers every step of the way to coordinate inspections, specialist handling, transport and final delivery. With strict handling requirements, the turbine was transported on an air ride suspension vehicles to minimise vibration and ensure it arrived in perfect condition.

Projects like this are a reminder that international freight is about far more than moving cargo from A to B. It's about detailed planning, clear communication, specialist equipment and a team that understands the importance of getting every detail right.

*** Weather Event ***
We've just been advised of ferry cancellations across the Cook Straight from tomorrow until Saturday (still subject to review). Expect delays on your interisland road freight transport.
As well as this, some vessels have announced that they have cancelled their Wellington port calls, meaning that they will discharge in Tauranga, and will need alternative arrangements to get it through to Wellington. We will keep you updated as the situation evolves. In the meantime, stay safe out there ... we don't recommend a swim in the Wellington harbour this coming week!
