Explore the unreal beauty of New Zealand with this 11 day top of the South Island campervan road trip itinerary 😮‍💨🇳🇿

Day 1: Christchurch 🏔️

Collect your Britz campervan, stock up on groceries and warm layers, and ease into holiday mode before heading into the mountains.

Day 2: Christchurch to Hokitika 🌲

Cross the Southern Alps via Arthur’s Pass and keep an eye out for kea, then detour to the West Coast Treetop Walkway before dinner at Woodstock Hotel.

Day 3: Hokitika to Franz Josef 🧊

Take the scenic drive into glacier country for the Franz Josef Glacier valley viewpoint walk, lunch at Snakebite Brewery and an evening soak at Waiho Hot Tubs.

Day 4: Franz Josef to Hokitika 🌿
Enjoy a morning kayak or the Callery Gorge Walk, then head back to Hokitika to browse the galleries and stroll the beachfront.

Day 5: Hokitika to Maruia Hot Springs ♨️

Head inland via Greymouth with lunch in the old gold-mining town of Reefton, then spend the afternoon in the thermal pools at Maruia Hot Springs.

Day 6: Maruia Hot Springs to Hanmer Springs 🚤

Take a short, scenic drive through Lewis Pass to Hanmer Springs, with a village stroll and dinner at Tease Bar and Eatery.

Day 7: Hanmer Springs 🧖

A slow day for the Heritage Forest walks and Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, followed by dinner at Fire & Ice and stargazing with Manuka Skies.

Day 8: Hanmer Springs ⛰️

Climb Conical Hill for panoramic views, then choose from jet boating on the Waiau River or another long soak in the pools.

Day 9: Hanmer Springs to Kaikōura 🦭

Arrive on the Pacific coast for seal viewing (keep 20 metres back), then catch the sunset and dinner at The Pier Hotel.

Day 10: Kaikōura 🌊

Start with breakfast at Beach House Cafe and a Kaikōura Peninsula walk, then enjoy lunch at Nins Bin and some stargazing in the evening.

Day 11: Kaikōura to Christchurch 🍷

Stop in Waipara for lunch at Pegasus Bay or Waipara Springs Winery (with a non-drinking driver), then return your campervan in Christchurch.
