You will also meet Ian at the Ashburton Fire Museum at their open days, often driving people in an old fire truck. The wooden fire trucks made by Ian are sold at the Ashburton fire museum.
Continuing our “meet the crew” series.
IAN MOORE
Ian Moore is a retired farmer and current Justice of the Peace who served 41 years with the Willowby Fire Unit, 21 as its Chief.
Proof that you can take the man out of the fire service but you can’t take the fire service out of the man, Ian put his hand up when he first heard of plans to expand and develop the Ashburton Fire Museum.
He and wife Rosalyn made a generous donation to the cause and then climbed straight on board with sleeves rolled up.
Ian has an enviable Man Cave at his Huntingdon home and is the epitome of the Kiwi Can Do. He produced a series of wooden fire engine toys as an early fundraiser for the museum, and on his own account has developed a range of good sturdy wooden toys which are available for purchase.
He led the construction of our new internal fitout and his piece ‘d resistance is certainly the magnificent awakening of the old Merrywether Manual fire appliance which was reborn in his shed with assistance from Grey Watch guys.
It is a sight to behold. And in full working order.
Ian continues to put his heart and soul into the Ashburton Fire Museum and is also an enthusiastic hands-on owner within the privately-owned Dennis TTL Syndicate.
And by the way, Christmas is coming, if you’d like to purchase one of his classic wooden vehicle toys, let us know and we will put you in touch.
Or come and have a yarn to him about it at one of our open days.
