- COFC Club Open Day FAQs -
📍 Where is the event being held?
The Open Day will be held at the Central Otago Flying Club at Alexandra Airport, 166 Coates Road, Alexandra.
⌚ What time does the event start?
The event runs from 10:00am – 3:00pm.
🛩️ Are trial flights available?
Yes! Trial flights will be available on the day (weather dependent).
Trial Flights Include:
- Flight with a qualified instructor
- Conducted in a dual-control training aircraft
- Approximately 15 minutes flying locally
- Special Open Day price: **NZD $100.00**
Please note:
- No pre-bookings will be taken
- Flights are first come, first served on the day
- Availability may be affected by weather and operational requirements ✈️
👶 Can children attend?
Absolutely! The Open Day is family friendly and everyone is welcome.
Please note that children must be supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times, as there will be moving aircraft and active airside operations during the event.
🐕🦺 Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, no dogs or pets are permitted at the Open Day, except for registered service animals. This is for the safety of guests, pilots, and aircraft operations.
🍔 Is food available?
Yes - The Lion's Club Food van will be present as well as Rob's Coffee Grind van, so food and refreshments will be available to purchase on site.
✈️ Can I look inside the aircraft and hangars?
Only at the aircraft/hangar owner's discretion. Please do not touch anything nor enter any property without the owner's permission. Please remember many of the properties are people's homes. Respect private property.
🌤️ What happens if the weather is bad?
Some activities, especially flying operations, may be affected by weather conditions. Any major updates will be shared on the club’s social media pages.
🅿️ Is there vehicle parking available?
Yes please note the following:
- There will be **NO parking near the terminal building**, as this area will be reserved for pedestrian access during the event.
- Parking will be available in a paddock area, which may not be suitable for lowered vehicles.
- Please follow all event signage and directions from organisers when arriving.
- Do not park on the roadside or across any gateway - resident and emergency vehicle access must be maintained at all times.
💲Do I need to bring cash?
Bringing both cash and EFTPOS/card payment options is recommended where possible.
♣️ Can I join the club on the day?
Yes! Club members will be available to chat about memberships, flight training, and getting involved in aviation.
🛬 Information for Visiting Pilots
- Pilots flying in are asked to follow normal standard joining procedures and maintain awareness of other aircraft operating in the area.
- Upon landing:
* Please park on the grass area where directed
* Leave the sealed apron free for active aircraft operations
* Remember to pay your landing fee (a landing fee payment link is available on the club website)
