Good news for tourism industry in Nepal!!
Tourists arriving in Nepal are now eligible for On-arrival Visa if they can produce a negative PCR report taken 72 hrs before their departure or a report attesting to receiving complete dose of Covid-19 vaccination. The decision regarding on-arrival visa came into effect from 25 March 2021.
The new guideline from the Tourism Ministry also removes the previous requirements of hotel booking for at least seven days' quarantine in Nepal and insurance of at least $5,000, per person against Covid-19.
However, tourists are still required to have travel insurance before visiting Nepal and do a PCR test after arriving in Nepal. Tourists will also have to obtain Visa Issuance Letter (VIL) from Department of Immigration by submitting necessary documents to their chosen travel/trekking agency.
The list of documents needed for obtaining Visa Insurance Letter is as follows:
• Negative PCR test taken 72 hrs prior to departure or certificate of receiving complete dose of Covid-19 vaccination
• Travel Insurance covering length of stay in Nepal
• Flight Itinerary
• Trip Itinerary
• Hotel Booking
Nepal has started first phase of vaccination against Covid-19. The number of Covid-19 cases has significantly dropped from the beginning of this year with 98% recovery rate.
We are hopeful that the new travel protocol will help to increase tourist arrival in Nepal and provide employment for tens of thousands of workers in the tourism sector.
