Never in my life did I imagine writing this caption. Standing next to you at Base Camp was more than a photo. It was a lesson in fearlessness, humility, and what it means to chase the impossible. You didn't just climb mountains, Nimsdai, you moved them for all of us who dreamed of following. I'll carry this moment, and your spirit, for the rest of my life. Nepal is mourning the loss of world-renowned mountaineer Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja following the devastating avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak. His expedition company, Elite Exped, confirmed his death after a difficult search operation on the 8,047-metre mountain.

Elite Exped also confirmed that Pur Bahadur Gurung, popularly known as Yukta, and Nima Sherpa lost their lives. Other Nepali climbers on the expedition were Kili Pemba Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa and Nawang Thindu Sherpa.

Their courage, achievements and contributions to Nepal’s mountaineering legacy will never be forgotten.
