After summiting Gasherbrum II, just one mountain now stands between Nirmal Purja and a third complete round of all 14 of the worldโs 8,000-metre peaks.
On July 21, Purja summited Gasherbrum II (8,035m) without supplemental oxygen, marking his 57th successful ascent of an 8,000-metre peak. Of those 57 ascents, 29 were completed without supplemental oxygen.
THE HAT-TRICK PROJECT
Purjaโs wider Hat-Trick Project combines two goals: completing all 14 eight-thousanders three times and completing the Seven Summits three times.
The Seven Summits have already been completed three times, leaving only his third round of the 14 eight-thousanders. With Gasherbrum II now done, only Cho Oyu remains.
The project builds on earlier milestones in his career, including Project Possible, when he completed all 14 eight-thousanders in six months and six days.
He later completed another full round of the 14 without supplemental oxygen.
ONE PEAK REMAINS
Cho Oyu is now the final eight-thousander left in his third round.
A successful ascent would complete all 14 of the worldโs 8,000-metre peaks for a third time and finish his Hat-Trick Project.
