Little throwback from 10th of May 2024, Estonia

it was such an incredible evening, especially considering it was already May. I have seen the Auroras from Estonia before in May as well, even as late as 8th of May, but it was very faint and fare bit of imagination was needed. The evening of 10th of May, no imagination was needed. Never seen so effective Northern Lights in Estonia before, it really reminded me the ones in Norway. Maybe just a notch softer, as there were no intense dancing Auroras, which is somewhat common in Troms area. Auroras have tons of variations and there is no way to tell, that one form is better than another. The way it unrolled in front of my eyes, it was like a miracle and it was also very special to be there alone, in silence.

Hope many of you have your own experience with that evening and hopefully it burned some sweet memories into your memory forever. Surely many of you have told us stories about this evening, that it was first time, you were able to see the Auroras with the naked eye and was at least partially, if not fully, the reason to travel to Norway to see them again.

Feel like sharing some of the moments from last season with you. Was a pretty crazy season for various reasons, but there was sooo much fun as well. One of the most enjoyable factors about these tours is, since we only run them max 8 people, the organised chaos, it comes with. :D Let me break that apart a bit to make more sense.

Over time by doing something with an intension, you constantly learn different angles of it. One of the things, I have learnt over the years is, nobody wants to have overly polished and pre-programmed tours. With good structure, it's possible to add so much organised chaos, it's just nuts. :D I decided to use this photo as an example. You can see half-frozen river and some pretty Auroras in the sky. If you look close enough, you see some people scattered all over the place on the half-frozen river. Was it 100% safe? Of course it wasn´t. 🤣 Was it 100% fun to do something completely out of the ordinary- it absolutely was. By looking at this picture myself, it reminds me something, I wasn´t thinking about earlier this post. You see a person on the left, closest to the edge of the ice. Shortly after taking this photo, I walked to him and checked, is he doing fine, as he didn´t move, but was just standing there, kind of motionless. He didn´t even turn around to answer me, but his answer absolutely reached certain areas within me. He said, he's having an psychedelic experience and if he would change anything at all, he'd wish, he was there alone. I completely understood him and felt connected with his state. I even could've granted his wish to be there alone, but we were more than 200km from Tromsø in the middle of freaking Finnish Lapland, so I decided to not do it in the end. 😃

And there were so many similar meaningful moments like these last year!! Sometimes I feel, of course it's nice to have Auroras on these tours as well, but there is a higher reason for all of this. And it's a great feeling, this one. :)

7th of April

the very last of the last tours is done now and what a way to go out!

If you look at the photos, there is always some blue sky there, even though the Auroras are strong and still nice and green. In case the Auroras were dim, the blue sky would affect the visibility in a grand way. Fortunately the skies were clear and the Auroras were strong that night.

Been thinking for days, what to put into the last post and I feel, I have said most of the things already during the season, if there was something important to say. Wasn´t an easy season at all, but thanks to our amazing team (you're all superstars, couldn´t do it without you!,) we somehow managed to find Auroras almost each night. So much work and dedication went into the operation and really glad, it shows on the results as well. 😎

Every end is a start of a new beginning. This last tour led by amazing Petr (let's try to collectively pressure him to come back next season :D) was just as much an end, than it is a new beginning. We'll have a deserved break now and then operating again from September. Booking page is already opened and looking forward to meet you again. :)

Soo spoiled with the last tours now. Weather actually got super cloudy in Tromsø during the daytime, which wasn´t supposed to be. Even the satellite images shower clouds all around, except deep down south close to Narvik. Aaaa shoot, it's supposed to be clear and lovely evening, did we jinxed it during the morning, when it was all sunny and clear? We planned with Petr and still decided to go with the original plan to head towards north all the way to Ringvassøya, as there was some small cracks of clear sky moving in from north-east. What were small cracks, developed to be big openings and here are the results.

Soo happy for the guests and also for Petr - everyone happy to always the goal. :)

5th of April

Last tour of the season for me (Markus.) 2 more chases led by Petr and then we pull the final rug.

I´m always struggling to make such conclusions after each season, as I don´t really see things ending like that in a classical sense. At least I can postpone it today by 2 more days, after the last GL tour has landed the base, whew. :D

About the 5th of April a bit...I don´t think, there was a nicer evening to end the season. Was crystal clear sky and activity going strong in a daytime. The daylight lasted forever and it was more or less dark only after 21:30 or so. Fortunately the activity lasted and gave us another brilliant show. We usually don´t run tours in April and if the weather doesn´t cooperate, it can really be a double-sided sword. This year it's been simply fantastic. Hope the photos will transfer it to you as well.

PS! We didn´t have a tour on the 4th of April. Therefore no post there.

Going out with an absolute bang, wow!

Last night was nothing short of magic and it really felt this way as well. When the show finally went down and we got the campfire going, I was explaining to my peeps, these kind of Auroras are always spiritual experience for me and they agreed. Haa, we listened some very suitable music on a way in as well and one of my guests was suspecting, I was setting this all up, haha! Which I could agree. Some of the nicest Auroras for the whole season and it's crazy, it's April.

Feel free to share this post, if you like, what you see. I've had quite turbulent personal life recently and really felt, how last night was teaching a lesson, how to not take things more seriously, as they have to be taken. So grateful for such reminders. 🙏

I was supposed to have a last tour tonight, but changed it for tomorrow due to much nicer weather. And then couple of more tours and then we pull the plug after last tour on the 7th. :)

2nd of April

Absolutely bonkers Auroras last night. You can see from the photos, we don´t get very dark skies anymore. But if the Auroras are strong, this is totally fine and very pretty to see. Yesterday the Auroras were very fast dancing and colourful for the naked eye.

Yesterday's night was a difficult one to decide, which way to go. Especially since we have to consider now the long days and late arriving nights as well. When we leave 19:00 or 20:00, but it gets dark-ish only around 22:00, have to be able to forecast few hours ahead, which are is best. We started at 20:00 yesterday and decided for the coastal area. Which wasn´t easy, as there were tons of clouds drifting by, but big and clear openings in between. Luckily we got amazing views in these openings, when the time was ripe.

What makes last night even more sweet. I got several people, who had failed to catch the Auroras on the previous nights and it was literally their last evening in Tromsø. So now job done and happy to send them off with big smiles on their faces. 🥰

1st of April (and it's not a joke!)

March started very pretty, hopefully gonna be like this for the whole month. :D Nono, if you look at, how blue the sky is, we are wrapping up soon. Of course the moon was pretty massive too, now it's going to be much lower in the sky for the remaining days of Aurora chasing.

Feels pretty lonely out there, quite a few companies have finished their seasons already. Which is perfect, been waaay too busy on earlier months. :D

31st of March

Last day of the month, it actually turned out wonderful. Was a very tough one and for a while, it didn´t seem to work out, as planned. Weather forecast promised us clear skies to Finland, but in reality the clouds were already covering half the sky, when we reached it. So we pushed deeper all the way to Iitto to find partially clear skies. Fortunately some Auroras also were there, but when we started driving back, there was more to be seen.

But now it seems, we survived the strong moon period end of the month and got Auroras on each night then. Just less than a week left of the season and it seems, the weather will be easier on us. It would be dream to finish the season at the coast. I believe it, when I see it, though. :D
