Happening just now 🌌

12/10/2026

🌊 Every winter, humpback whales and orcas follow the herring into the waters of Northern Norway.

They’re not here for us.. They’re here to feed 🐟.
They’re following their instincts, hunting, travelling, and doing what they’ve done for generations.

And when we head out onto the Arctic waters, we’re entering their world.
Our purpose isn’t to chase them, interrupt their feeding, or force an encounter just so we can get the perfect picture❗️

We’re there to observe, to learn, and if we’re lucky to witness something extraordinary without interfering with it 🔎

Sometimes that means watching from a distance. Sometimes it means waiting patiently. And sometimes nature simply has other plans.

That’s part of what makes seeing a whale in the wild so special 🐋
It’s not a performance. It’s not something we can schedule or control.

We’re guests out there. And the whales owe us nothing.

So if you’re planning a whale watching trip to Tromsø this winter, remember:
The best encounter isn’t necessarily the closest one.
It’s the one where we get to witness their world while allowing them to carry on with their lives. 💙

Winter is coming in Tromsø ❄️

The snow is pushing further down the mountains, the air is getting colder, the last autumn leaves are falling and we couldn’t be happier 🤩

Make sure to enjoy these next few days if you are in town, as we’re supposed to have some good weather 😊

You never really know when that first fin is going to break the surface. 🐋
And that’s half the fun.

Today, on February 6th, we mark the Sámi National Day! ❤️💚💛💙
In a time when Indigenous voices still need space, visibility and recognition, it is more important than ever to highlight and respect the knowledge, history and presence of Sámi communities here in Norway. There is so much to learn from their cultural diversity and their connection to Arctic nature.
Responsible tourism starts with understanding where we are, who lives here and how we can contribute to preserve local and Indigenous communities. We suggest all visitors to dive into the Sámi cultural heritage when visiting the Arctic. 🙏🏼
Today, and every day, we stand for listening, learning and supporting Indigenous cultures, here in the North, and across the world. ✨🌍
