Two weeks in Malta, a pair of Azimuth thrusters, and a crash course in what really happens during an overhaul. As part of his propulsion training, our Area Sales Manager Martijn Rieff joined service engineers Sam Brown and Arjen Hoogendijk on board for the full overhaul of two Azimuth thrusters. What started as a learning experience quickly turned into a deep dive into the reality of marine service work.
Martijn saw firsthand how many steps, components, and skilled hands are involved before parts can actually be replaced. What may look traightforward on paper is, in reality, a carefully coordinated operation that requires experience, precision, and teamwork. From day one to the final stages of the overhaul, Martijn joined the team on the job, following the entire process and getting his hands dirty along the way. His technical curiosity and insight surprised not only himself, but also a few colleagues.
Experiences like this are exactly what make a traineeship valuable: understanding the work behind the products and the people who make it happen.
A big thank you to our customer Roland van Beek from EMAR Offshore Services for the trust and the opportunity to support this project. And of course, compliments to Sam, Arjen, and Martijn for the teamwork in Malta.
