The Best Athens Day Trip for Under 25€! 🇬🇷
🌇 Athens is incredible, but after a couple of days of ancient ruins, busy streets and eating my body weight in Greek food, I was very ready for some nature and a swim!
💦 Enter Lake Vouliagmeni, a gorgeous natural thermal lake just outside Athens, where the water stays around 25°C and you can spend the afternoon swimming, sunbathing and generally forgetting you’re anywhere near a capital city.
💰 And while a Bolt or Uber from central Athens can cost around 30€ each way, getting to Lake Vouliagmeni by public transport costs just a few euros.
🚇 Take Metro Line 2 south from central Athens to Argyroupoli, then hop on the 122 bus from outside the station towards Vouliagmeni. The whole journey takes around an hour, depending on traffic.
🎟️ Lake Vouliagmeni is open daily from 8am to 8pm. Standard entry was 17€ on weekdays and 19€ at weekends when I visited, with tickets available at the entrance.
🐟 Entry includes swimming in the mineral-rich lake, access to the main deck and a lounger, plus the lake’s famous little fish that will happily nibble at your feet. Free pedicure, anyone?!
⛱️ You can also pay extra for sunbed sets and umbrellas, use lockers, and order food and drinks from the onsite restaurant and bar.
☀️ I kept things budget-friendly with the standard 19€ option, spent another 10€ on drinks, then happily alternated between sunbathing and floating around in that glorious warm water.
🍴 And don’t rush straight back to Athens. Afterwards, walk down towards the coast for dinner at Sardelaki Me Thea, where you can tuck into Greek seafood overlooking the sea. Mine was absolutely delish.
💙 If you’re looking for an easy Athens day trip that combines nature, swimming and a break from sightseeing, Lake Vouliagmeni is definitely one to save.
