Innovation in Navigation on inland waterways

Recently, Radio Holland introduced an innovative addition to its IWW Pro line: a fiber‑optic gyro for the Sense Rate of Turn Indicator. This new technology is a big step forward in the digitalization and reliability of inland navigation.

The Sense Rate of Turn Indicator uses fiber‑optic technology instead of the traditional mechanical gyro principle. What results in:
- Exceptional stability and accuracy
- Reliable performance regardless of ship movement, shocks, and vibrations
- No moving parts so minimal wear

As the gyro has no mechanical components, the system provide a more consistent performance while lowering operational downtime.

⚓ Maritime Industry 2026 – terugblik

De editie van Maritime Industry 2026 is afgesloten. Op onze stand hebben we gedurende drie dagen veel bezoekers mogen ontvangen en inhoudelijke gesprekken gevoerd.
De dag na de beurs spraken we kort met Ronald Chatrer, Manager Binnenvaart bij Radio Holland, over zijn bevindingen.

Hoe was de algehele sfeer op de stand?
De sfeer was positief en betrokken. We hebben intensieve dagen gehad met gerichte gesprekken, zowel met bestaande relaties als nieuwe contacten. Bezoekers namen de tijd om verdiepend door te vragen, wat leidde tot waardevolle uitwisselingen over ontwikkelingen rondom navigatie, veiligheid en ondersteuning in de binnenvaart.

Welke oplossing trok de meeste aandacht?
Er was veel belangstelling voor de Radio Holland Sense bochtaanwijzer. Na het ontvangen van de Publieksprijs voor meest innovatieve product merkten we een duidelijke toename in interesse. Met name de toepassing van fiberoptic technologie werd als onderscheidend ervaren, vanwege de precisie en flexibiliteit in installatie. Bezoekers informeerden ook naar de beschikbaarheid. De type approval tests zijn succesvol afgerond en de verwachting is dat levering binnen circa twee maanden mogelijk is.

Als je de belangrijkste les van de beurs in één zin zou kunnen samenvatten, wat zou die dan zijn?
Innovaties in de binnenvaart worden gewaardeerd wanneer zij praktisch toepasbaar zijn, betrouwbaarheid bieden en directe meerwaarde leveren voor de dagelijkse operatie aan boord.

Lancering op Maritime Industry

Samen met Retina introduceert Radio Holland de Sense Bochtaanwijzer – de volgende stap in slimme en betrouwbare navigatie voor de binnenvaart.

Met deze innovatie zetten we opnieuw een belangrijke stap in de digitalisering van de sector.
De Sense Bochtaanwijzer maakt gebruik van fiber optic technologie in plaats van het traditionele gyro-principe. Dat betekent:

✔️ Uiterst stabiel en nauwkeurig, zelfs bij beweging, schokken en trillingen
✔️ Geen bewegende onderdelen → minimale slijtage
✔️ Minder onderhoud en lagere downtime

“Met de Sense Bochtaanwijzer introduceren we een nieuwe generatie bochtaanwijzers voor de binnenvaart,” zegt Ronald Chatrer, Manager Inland Waterways bij Radio Holland.
“Geen draaiende rotor, geen lagers en nauwelijks onderhoud. Dat betekent meer betrouwbaarheid en flexibiliteit bij installatie.”
