2025 has been a year of great dynamism. We welcomed new vessels, said farewell to others, and continued to develop our fleet through innovation and forward-looking solutions. Today, September 25, 2025, marks the 10th anniversary of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over the past decade, the SDGs have become the framework for sustainable development. At JR Shipping Group, the SDGs also form the foundation of our business operations.

In our latest of the Sustainability Report, we showed how we prioritize our goals. We strive to make a positive impact on every goal, though our greatest role lies within the SDGs most closely connected to our daily operations. For example, in line with international regulations, we are actively working to reduce our impact on people, the environment, air, and water (SDG 13 & 14).

Health and Safety on board our ships are crucial pillars of our business operations (SDG 3). We ensure that our crew is always well prepared and professionally competent (SDG 4). By also actively working on diversity and equal opportunities, we aim to create a safe and inclusive maritime working environment. (SDG 10). On this basis, we invest in innovative energy solutions and efficient fuel consumption, thereby contributing to future-proof and sustainable shipping (SDG 7).

Today, 25 June, the global maritime community comes together to celebrate 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐃𝐚𝐲. This year, the International Maritime Organization - IMO launched the “𝐌𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩” campaign, a bold initiative to promote a culture of respect and zero tolerance for bullying and harassment at sea.

𝐉𝐑 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐂𝐎-8500 𝐃𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐬 🚢🚢

JR Shipping Group is pleased to announce the addition of two state-of-the-art, low-emission ECO-8500 short sea dry cargo vessels to its fleet. This strategic move aligns our ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence within the maritime sector.💚

The vessels, featuring diesel-electric propulsion and optimised for energy efficiency, are being constructed by our long-year yard partner, Chowgule and Company - Shipbuilding Division. As part of a broader series developed in collaboration with Boomsma Shipping and Leonhardt & Blumberg, JR Shipping will take delivery of vessels six and eight, scheduled for 2027 and 2028, respectively.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
- 8,500 DWT and 13,900 m³ cargo hold
- Advanced diesel-electric propulsion with Tier III Volvo generators
- 50%-60% less propulsion energy needed, resulting in significant emission reductions of 50% - 90% compared to existing tonnage.
- Prepared for future technologies including wind-assisted propulsion, battery operation, and carbon capture

This strategic move marks JR Shipping Group’s return to the dry cargo sector and aligns with our vision to grow as a progressive, full-service shipping group, delivering high-quality, reliable, and environmentally responsible shipping solutions to its partners and clients worldwide.🌍

Establishing a focus on innovative developments that can benefit our business and the environment in the future is of great importance for JR Shipping Group. This makes us excited to also test with Dex Oil BV Technology on board our vessel, MV Energizer, in addition to the application for our Seazip Offshore Service vessels.

Innovation in Action: DEX QM Premium Lubricants tested on MV Energizer's main engine

The maritime sector has faced stricter emissions legislation, an opportunity for companies that seize this challenge to make a difference. JR Shipping is embracing innovative technologies, such as DEX QM Technology, to make its fleet more efficient and sustainable.

Following previous successful implementations on Seazip Offshore Service's fleet - a range of CTVs providing services to the offshore industry - DEX QM technology is now being tested on the MV Energizer's main engine. Whereas the focus on Seazip Offshore Service was on oil changeover time extension thanks to DEX QM technology, the MV Energizer is all about demonstrating impact with respect to fuel savings, CO2 reduction and improving the vessel's CII rating.

The trial period on the MV Energizer will last six months, and we have high expectations. Lower fuel consumption not only means lower CO2 emissions, but also an improved CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) rating, a crucial factor in meeting the new emission standards.

Last week, our colleagues Jan Reier Arends, Robert Jean Dupuis and Arnoud van den Bos attended JR Shipping's Crew Conference in partnership with Marlow Navigation in Manila, Philippines.

We look back on a great week, in which commitment, sustainability and cooperation were central but also asked our colleagues to actively think along with organisational developments and areas of concern. The involvement of our crew was great.

In particular, we also reflected on our colleagues who have been involved with our shipping group for a long time. At JR Shipping Group we recognise that our greatest asset is our people! Human capital, identified as a key opportunity during our materiality process, plays a crucial role in driving our success. We are proud to have such a large group of colleagues who are closely involved and responsible for our day-to-day business operations. The commitment of our employees is the heartbeat of our shipping group and we are grateful for each and every one of you. Together, we are JR Shipping!

Our special appreciation goes to Marlow Navigation, who has been an exceptional partner on our journey. Together we are sailing the seas of cooperation and ensuring that our crew and company sail to new horizons. We look forward to more shared moments and continued collaboration with the amazing crew. Let's commit together to sustainability in short sea shipping!

We are proud to publish our second Sustainability Report! This puts us at the forefront of the transition to a more sustainable future, ahead of the legal obligations that come into force in 2026. For us, ESG is not an obligation, but an opportunity. Opportunities in several ways;

Environment: We have taken concrete steps to reduce our environmental footprint. From research into biofuel as an alternative fuel to innovative adaptation projects for our vessels, we are determined to minimize our impact on the environment.

Social: We invest in our people and create an inclusive and safe working environment. We are grateful for the commitment of all our employees, who have helped us prepare this report and inspire us to improve.

Governance: Transparency and responsible decision-making are crucial to us. We have strengthened our governance structures to ensure that ethical choices and social responsibility are at the core of our business activities.

Although we do not yet meet all ESG requirements, steps have been taken and lessons learned. Our report provides valuable insights and highlights our commitment to sustainability.
