Lisbon and I have been in a love affair for over ten years now. And unlike most of my romantic endeavours, this one is still going strong. ;-)

I’ve been going back almost every year, collecting boutique hotels, wine bars, brunch spots, restaurants and hidden gems saved on my phone.

Now I finally put them all together in a map!

I think Bob Ross would have loved it here. This is the Nærøyfjord in Norway, and I find it fascinating how people have found ways to live in some of the most remote corners of the world. A simpler life, far from the rushed pace of a city, where getting anywhere takes time and effort.

I deleted my dating apps and stopped dating.

Not because I stopped believing in love, but because I got tired of confusing chaos with connection.

After a few long-term relationships, I found myself back in the dating world a while ago. Things have… changed.

Solo travel kept reminding me how peaceful life can feel when you’re no longer trying to earn someone else’s approval.

It’s about choosing peace over unpredictability. About why I’ve stopped treating finding a partner like life’s biggest achievement. And why I think more women are quietly making the same choice.

Maybe this is the biggest struggle as you get older as a solo traveller…

You don’t stop wanting to meet people.
You just stop wanting to share a room with them.

Somewhere along the way, I realised I’d slowly become a “boutique solo traveller”. That’s how I like to call it:-)

I still travel exactly the way I always have, but these days I value a beautiful place to come home to, a good night’s sleep, comfort, and hotels where it’s easy to meet like-minded people without having to sleep in a dorm.

I wrote about that shift, and how I like to travel these days. Including some highly recommended accommodations.

In a couple of weeks I will be travelling to Lombok. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the road and I needed some time at home in The Netherlands. Amsterdam feels pretty tropical too these days ☀️
