📊 EU Carbon Market Weekly Analysis | 8–13 June 2026
The EU carbon market closed the week on a stronger note, with auction prices rising by 2.32% and demand remaining resilient despite increasing discussions around future policy interventions.

🔹 Auction Highlights
• Total auction volume: 11.98 million EUAs
• Final auction price: €76.82/tCO₂
• Average cover ratio: 1.62
• Strong bidder participation was seen throughout the week, particularly during the 10 and 12 June auctions, reflecting healthy market demand.

📈 Market Performance
The EUA Spot market recorded a modest weekly gain, closing at €75.80, while the EUA December 2026 Futures contract ended at €77.33. Prices remained above key technical support levels, indicating continued market resilience despite signs of short-term bearish momentum from technical indicators.

📰 Key Market Developments
1️⃣ EU Strengthens ETS2 Price Controls
The European Union has agreed to introduce stronger price-control measures for ETS2, covering road transport and heating fuels from 2028. Additional allowances may be released if carbon prices exceed certain thresholds, helping reduce price volatility but potentially limiting future carbon price growth.

2️⃣ Potential Extension of Free Allowances
The European Commission is reportedly considering extending free emissions allowances for industries that invest within the EU. While aimed at supporting industrial competitiveness, the proposal could increase allowance supply and ease compliance demand, creating downward pressure on EUA prices.

3️⃣ Investors Defend a Strong ETS Framework
A coalition of investors representing approximately €12 trillion in assets has urged EU policymakers to preserve the integrity of the Emissions Trading System during the upcoming July review. The group emphasized the importance of maintaining predictable carbon pricing and preserving allowance scarcity to support long-term decarbonisation investments.

🔍 Market Outlook
The upcoming EU ETS review is expected to be a major catalyst for the carbon market. While proposals for additional market interventions and extended free allocations may weigh on sentiment, strong investor support for a robust ETS framework highlights the continued importance of predictable carbon pricing in Europe's transition to a low-carbon economy.

📊 EU Carbon Market Weekly Update | 1–5 June 2026

The European carbon market moved into a corrective phase this week, with EUA prices easing as traders consolidated gains made during May.
Key developments shaping the market:

🔹 The European Commission confirmed that 190.5 million EU ETS allowances will be transferred to the Market Stability Reserve (MSR) between September 2026 and August 2027. The move is expected to tighten supply and provide continued support for EUA prices over the medium term.

🔹 EU carbon permit auctions remained resilient, with 3.199 million EUA permits clearing at €76.96/t. Strong participation and healthy bidding activity suggest that compliance demand remains robust despite recent market volatility.

🔹 The United Kingdom announced an ambitious target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 87% by 2040 compared with 1990 levels, reinforcing Europe's long-term commitment to decarbonisation and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

📈 Market Snapshot:
• EUA Spot: €75.65/t (-2.46% WoW)
• EUA Dec-26 Futures: €76.90/t (-4.40% WoW)
• Last Auction Price: €76.30/tCO₂
• Total Auction Volume: 10.40 million EUAs

While short-term momentum has weakened and technical indicators point to a corrective phase, the broader recovery trend remains intact. Continued supply tightening through the MSR and strong auction participation provide supportive long-term fundamentals for the European carbon market.

Stay informed as regulatory developments, climate policies, and carbon market dynamics continue to shape the path toward decarbonisation.

⚓ Posidonia 2026: Until We Meet Again

As the curtains close on another incredible week at Posidonia 2026, we look back with gratitude, pride, and optimism for the future.

Over the past four days, our team at Varuna Marine Services B.V. had the opportunity to engage with shipowners, operators, managers, technology providers, and maritime professionals from across the globe.

From discussions on FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS compliance, and emissions management to conversations around vessel inspections, cybersecurity, retrofit projects, and maritime digitalization, every interaction reinforced one thing:

The future of shipping will be shaped by collaboration.

Beyond the exhibition floor, Posidonia reminded us that maritime progress is driven by people—by the partnerships we build, the knowledge we share, and the challenges we solve together.

To everyone who visited our booth, exchanged ideas with our team, and explored opportunities for collaboration—thank you.

The event may be ending, but the conversations, partnerships, and opportunities we've started here are only just beginning.

Until we meet again, fair winds and following seas.⚓
