JUST THINKING… what will be the fate of Tank Farm owners in Nigeria when Dangote Refinery is fully up and running at 650,000 barrels per day capacity, with over 8,000+ trucks already built into its distribution plan?

For years, Tank Farms have been the power brokers in the downstream oil sector.

Their wealth was built on the importation of refined products, forex maneuvering, and controlling supply through storage.

They were, literally, the gatekeepers. We all know thIf you wanted fuel, you had to pass through their depots in Apapa, Ibafon, Calabar, Warri, or Port Harcourt.

But the game is shifting.

Dangote isn’t just refining locally. He’s positioned to supply directly to the market, cutting out many layers.

That means less reliance on imports, tighter control of pricing, and potentially reduced arbitrage opportunities for Tank Farms.

So I’m wondering:

Will Tank Farms evolve into strategic storage and distribution partners for Dangote? (I honestly doubt it, especially for those too close to the refinery itself.)

Could some reposition as export hubs for West Africa, since Dangote has clear plans to push products regionally?

Or will the smaller, less-structured Tank Farms simply fade out, because the old import-margin model is gone?

This feels like a major shift.

The real value is no longer in “who controls the imports” but in “who controls distribution and last-mile reach.”

And here’s the reality: Dangote already holds the cards, efficiency in production, scale in logistics, and strong partnerships.

Tank Farms may soon slip into pure survival mode.

The wiser ones might even cash out early before the wave sweeps through.

The downstream oil sector is about to be disrupted in a way we haven’t seen before.

If you still think someone is rich just because they’re driving a fancy car... you’ve already disqualified yourself from real wealth conversations. You’ve fallen for the trap designed to keep you broke but impressed.
