Engineers have tested a groundbreaking jet engine that ran nonstop for seventy hours without burning any fuel. Instead of combustion, the system uses superheated plasma, creating thrust by accelerating ionized gas with electromagnetic fields. By replacing fuel explosions with controlled plasma flow, the engine cuts emissions entirely and removes dependence on fossil fuels while maintaining stable thrust and temperature throughout the test.
Although the engine still needs electricity to generate plasma, researchers believe future versions could run on advanced batteries, nuclear power, or renewable energy. If scaled successfully, this technology could redefine aviation with ultra long flights, near zero emissions, and dramatically lower operating costs.
