WORLD MARITIME DAY 2026

The Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) proudly joins the global maritime community in celebrating World Maritime Day 2026.

This year's theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,” calls attention to the importance of turning maritime policies, regulations and standards into practical results across our ports, waterways and transportation systems.

For Nigeria, an efficient barge transportation system remains an important part of moving cargo and supporting the maritime supply chain. We therefore remain committed to promoting safe, efficient, sustainable and professionally managed barge operations while supporting stronger collaboration among stakeholders in the maritime and inland waterways sector.

As we celebrate this important day, BOAN reaffirms its commitment to contributing to a safer, more efficient and resilient maritime industry in Nigeria.

BOAN joined the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) NIWA stakeholders’ engagement, in collaboration with Parts Central Limited, focused on promoting cleaner and safer waterways.
As key stakeholders in Nigeria’s inland waterways sector, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that protect our waterways and strengthen sustainable maritime operations.

Together, we can keep our waterways clean, safe and productive.

The Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN), led by its President, Hon. Olumekun Olubunmi, held a productive strategic meeting with the management of the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, to strengthen collaboration and promote the growth of barge operations in Nigeria.

The engagement focused on knowledge sharing, global best practices, and building partnerships that will support the development of a more efficient and sustainable inland waterway transport system in Nigeria.

Together, we are charting a new course for the future of Nigeria's barge industry.

The Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) today participated in a constructive and critical engagement with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council Council as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen barge operations and advance sustainable growth within Nigeria's maritime sector. Through continuous dialogue and stakeholder collaboration, BOAN remains committed to promoting policies and initiatives that will enhance operational efficiency, support indigenous operators, and contribute to the development of the nation's blue economy.

Yesterday, the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria participated in the 2nd Quarter 2026 Citizens/Stakeholders Engagement organized by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

With the theme, "From Policy to Action: Mobilizing Sub-National Policies on the Marine and Blue Economy," the engagement brought together key stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for advancing Nigeria's marine and blue economy through stronger collaboration and effective policy implementation.

BOAN remains committed to supporting initiatives and partnerships that promote the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria's marine and blue economy.

Following its active participation in the Sealink Roundtable Dialogue on 24 June 2026, the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) was also proudly represented at the Nigeria-EU Business Forum 2026 today 26th of June 2026.
