GEMS4 - Wholesale & Retail GEMS4 is an economic growth project employing market system approaches to reduce poverty & create jobs in the Nigerian wholesale/retail sector.

GEMS4 is a five-year project funded with UKaid from the UK government and the World Bank. Our aim is to stimulate economic growth in Nigeria's Wholesale & Retail sector, reduce poverty, create jobs and raise incomes for 500,000 poor people with an emphasis on women's economic empowerment. The project is building local capacities and changing market systems so that the sector will better meet the l

ong-term needs of the poor, especially women, in Lagos, Kano, Kaduna & Cross River states. Women play a significant role in all stages of W&R distribution value chains so there are significant opportunities for Women's Economic Empowerment and poverty reduction by modernizing and innovating these sectors. This is the task that every person in the GEMS4 project team is committed to delivering.
