GIVE US EXAMPLES OF LUCRATIVE UNIVERSITY COURSES
Compare this:
A graduate of:
• Nursing
• Pharmacy
• Radiography
• Medical Laboratory Science
• Physiotherapy
Walks into a hospital and is needed immediately.
But a graduate of:
• General Biology
• Pure Sociology
• Abstract International Relations
•Anatomy
•Physiology
•Microbiology
•Biochemistry
Walks into the same economy and starts asking:
“So… what exactly can I do?”
That confusion is expensive.
Very expensive.
Because while they are “figuring it out”
life is happening
bills are coming
and parents are still paying.
Listen carefully:
Any course that does not point clearly to a job is a risk in Nigeria.
This is not about intelligence.
This is about strategy.
Knowledge is good.
But in this economy, useful knowledge is everything.
CHOOSE COURSES THAT FEED YOU FIRST (I will give just a few examples, add more lucrative courses in comment section)
“Passion is beautiful… but passion without income is pressure.”
Let’s tell ourselves the truth parents avoid.
Your child does not need to love the course at 18.
They need to be able to survive with it at 25.
So here is the smarter strategy:
Step 1: Choose a course that can PAY (this is not an exhaustive list, add more in comment section)
Courses with clear earning pathways:
Healthcare:
• Medicine
• Nursing
• Dentistry
• Pharmacy
• Physiotherapy
• Radiography
• Dietetics
• Medical Laboratory Science
These are globally transferable.
Hospitals exist everywhere. Sick people exist everywhere.
Tech
•Any tech course like Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer science
Engineering courses
•Civil Engineering
•Electrical/Electronics Engineering
•Mechanical Engineering
Agriculture
Nutrition and Dietetics
Skilled professions:
• Plumbing
• Electrical work
• Carpentry
• Auto mechanics
These people are in massive demand in:
Nigeria
UK
Canada
USA
They don’t beg for jobs.
Jobs look for them.
Strategic global skills:
• German
• French
• Spanish
• Chinese (especially Chinese, it’s a money spinner)
Fluency here can place your child in:
• Embassies
• NGOs
• International organisations
• Remote global roles
And they earn in foreign currency.
Step 2: Let passion come later
Once your child can pay their own bills
they can switch careers if they want.
But starting life with a degree that cannot feed you
is starting life already behind.
Parents, be wise.
Feed the stomach first.
Then follow passion later.
