Hi team,
I hope you are all doing well.
I realize I have been absent from the page for quite some time now, as running this charity work has become a deeply consuming rollercoaster. Lately, I have been seriously considering stepping back and letting this go, largely because it consumes everything in one's life. The reality is that available support has dwindled while the needs of individuals continue to escalate.
I recently had a conversation with a fellow charity worker that truly resonated with me. She asked me to look back at the families we helped four years ago who were in urgent need, and consider where they are now. Her point was that for many, nothing has substantially improved or changed. She also reminded me of a critical moment during the height of Covid when she and her family were sick and literally no one was available to bring them food. This struck me deeply because it highlighted a potential chapter in my own story: we often need assistance ourselves, and when that moment comes, support is nowhere to be found.
With this perspective, I believe it is time to pivot our focus from helping individuals to supporting groups, starting with a community-based project.
My main proposal is to launch a soup kitchen initiative, starting with Khomasdal Primary School (KPS) and then expanding to other schools. I choose KPS because my own children attend there, allowing me to directly witness the need among the students. This initiative would not be exclusive to KPS students, but it is the logical place to begin. KPS already has a kitchen facility; what is required is community contribution to ensure these children have food to eat.
Additionally, I would like to establish a second-hand shop. Many of these children are in urgent need of proper clothing, shoes, school bags, and stationary.
If you are willing and able to assist with either the soup kitchen or the second-hand shop, please let me know.
