There are hotels that appear in films. And then there is the Park Hyatt Tokyo, a hotel that became the film.
Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation used every corner of it. The New York Bar on the 52nd floor where strangers become something more. The Diplomat Suite where Charlotte curls up on the windowsill and watches a city she doesn’t yet understand. The pool, the bamboo bar, the floor-to-ceiling windows and Tokyo glittering below.
The hotel has just reopened after a major renovation, faithful to its original quiet elegance. The suite is still there. The jazz is still playing. The view is still extraordinary.
This is the first post in a new series, Check in to the Movies, where I’ll be sharing the world’s most iconic film hotels, one at a time. All bookable. All extraordinary.
