An offshore platform doesn't wait for paperwork. But your cargo will.

Shipping O&G cargo to East Malaysia isn't like domestic freight. Sabah and Sarawak have their own customs requirements — starting with the K3 form that many West Malaysian shippers don't even know exists.

Add dangerous goods to the mix, and one shipment needs five documents, all aligned: K3, Air Waybill, Commercial Invoice, DG Declaration, and the Shipper's Declaration. One missing or mismatched document, and your cargo sits at the terminal while your operation waits offshore.

Here's how easy it is to get wrong: your pump falls under Chapter 84 (machinery). The sensor attached to it? Chapter 85 (electrical equipment). Same shipment, two different chapters and customs expects you to know the difference.

Why does CoG matter more in 2026?

Every freighter has a Centre-of-Gravity envelope on the B737-800F, roughly 17% to 33% MAC. Load a 5-tonne unit too far forward or aft, and the aircraft becomes harder to control, burns more fuel, and in extreme cases becomes a genuine flight risk.

The 2026 IATA ULDR tightens these tolerances for oversized and heavy cargo. That means tighter load planning, better tie-down schemes, and zero room for guesswork.

In oil & gas logistics, weight is the easy part. Classification is where expertise matters.

Much of the sector's equipment and materials fall under IATA Dangerous Goods classifications; Class 3 (Flammable Liquids) and Class 8 (Corrosives) among them. Handling them requires certified knowledge of the IATA DGR 67th Edition (2026): proper classification, packaging, documentation, and declaration.

But Tokyo = NRT? Paris = CDG? Beijing = PEK? 🤔

Here's the thing, airport codes don't always follow the city. Some follow the airport's name (NRT = Narita, CDG = Charles de Gaulle). Some are frozen in history (PEK = Peking, SGN = Saigon). And some… we'll let you guess. 😉

In freight forwarding, these 3-letter codes are our daily language. One wrong code, and your cargo lands in the wrong country, literally.
