MARAGANG HILL, KUNDASANG — Sabah’s Best Kinabalu Viewpoint 🇲

Standing at 2,232m, Maragang Hill in Kampung Mesilau, Kundasang is Malaysia’s tallest hill — and one of the closest you’ll get to Mount Kinabalu without a summit permit. We started the sunrise hike before dawn, torchlight in hand, legs burning on the steep boardwalk trail… and every step was worth it.

Reaching the summit platform as the sun broke over the Crocker Range, with Mount Kinabalu standing right in front of us — that view hit different. Pure silence, cold mountain air, and a sense of “we actually made it.” 🥾✨

If you’re planning to climb Mount Kinabalu, do Maragang Hill first — it’s the perfect training hike and honestly one of the most underrated viewpoints in Sabah.

Just a proboscis monkey judging your nose from a tree branch. A macaque planning to steal your snacks (and possibly your sunglasses). And a crocodile doing absolutely nothing suspicious just below the surface.
