🌱 Building today the airport of tomorrow – Episode 2 ✈️

On this World Water Day, we’re shining a light on how every drop—and every action—counts. 💧

How do we make every journey more sustainable—together with our passengers?
It starts with simple actions that make a real difference. ♻️

For this second episode, we focus on resource preservation at lux-Airport—and how you can be part of it every time you travel.

🔍 Here’s how we’re reducing single-use plastic in the terminal:
✔️ Water fountains are available throughout the terminal so you can easily refill your bottle
✔️ Eco-designed water bottles made from 90% sugar cane are available for purchase
✔️ Profits from these bottles are donated to the association Hellef fir d'Natur, supporting the preservation of the “Schlammwiss” wetland

Because preserving resources isn’t just about infrastructure—it’s about empowering every traveler to make better choices.

🌍 Together, let’s reduce waste, rethink consumption, and build a more sustainable future for aviation.

✈️ Welcome back to SAS!

Yesterday marked a special milestone at Luxembourg Airport as we celebrated the inaugural Scandinavian Airlines flight connecting Luxembourg and Copenhagen.

We were honoured to welcome Susanne Shine, Ambassador of Denmark to Luxembourg, and Erik Westman, Chief Revenue Officer at SAS, who joined us for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially inaugurate this new service. The addition of SAS on the Luxembourg–Copenhagen route further enhances connectivity between Luxembourg and Scandinavia while offering passengers even more travel opportunities to the Nordic region and beyond.

Before boarding the very first departure, passengers enjoyed a warm and festive send-off with pastries, colourful macarons and hot chocolate topped with marshmallows — a small treat to mark the beginning of this exciting journey.

A big thank you to our partners at SAS and to everyone involved in making this event. We look forward to seeing many travellers discover Copenhagen and the wider Scandinavian network.

🤍 Together, we can make a difference

On December 22nd, we were delighted to welcome Mr Yves Barthels, founder of the Sarah Grond Foundation, accompanied by his two sons. The foundation honors the memory of his wife Sarah, a former Luxair flight attendant who passed away in 2019, leaving behind Yves and their children. Through this foundation, Yves supports families facing similar life-changing challenges.

Alongside our partner Luxair, a €2,000 donation was made to the foundation. This donation was made possible thanks to the sale of Luxair snack boxes during our Sunset Cinema event at Luxembourg Airport last summer, which raised close to €1,000. To amplify this gesture, lux-Airport topped up the amount to reach €2,000.

On the same occasion, we also donated toys collected during our lux-Airport Charity Week, bringing a little extra joy to the children supported by the foundation.

Thank you to Luxair Luxembourg Airlines and everyone who contributed and helped turn small gestures into meaningful support.✨

Snowfall earlier today means our winter operations remain in place, including runway snow clearance and aircraft, stand and walkway de-icing.

👉Some delays are possible, but our teams are in place to keep the airport operating safely and smoothly.

⚠️If you’re travelling to the airport, please allow extra time and take care on the roads.

It all began with a mysterious letter signed Réno — and a simple invitation: Find me if you can ✨

Colleagues across lux-Airport took up the challenge. Teams from every department followed clues, shared smiles, and created small moments that turned an ordinary December day into something special. Along the way, we were reminded of what defines us every day: collaboration, diversity, and a strong team spirit — united by the belief that even ambitious goals can be achieved together.

Step by step, the search led us to the Christmas tree in the departure hall 🎄 There, Réno appeared — our new mascot — sparking surprise, laughter, and a warm sense of joy.

The entire lux-Airport team would like to thank our passengers and partners for their trust and cooperation throughout the year, and extend a special thank you to all teams working at Luxembourg Airport (and everyone helping keep airports running worldwide) over the holiday period. We wish you all a joyful festive season and a happy New Year.

lux-Airport was honoured to be nominated by Ponts et Chaussées to take part in the . Together, we identified the ideal location at the airport to plant their tree - followed by ours. As part of the challenge, we were pleased to nominate three valued partners to continue the initiative.
