The upper image is an AI attempt to imagine how the Palace of Ardashir in Iran may have looked nearly 1,800 years ago. Below is what remains today.

And even the ruins that survive today still look impressive.

The palace was built in 224 AD, when Ardashir I founded the Sasanian Empire, one of the most powerful states of the ancient world. At that time, the Roman Empire was still consolidating its power in Europe, while in Persia enormous domes, monumental iwans, and sophisticated architecture were already rising.

Interestingly, the palace was probably not a fortress. It was more likely a ceremonial and representative place used for royal receptions, ceremonies, and displays of imperial power.

Aleppo, Syria

In Syria today, solar panels have become not a symbol of ecology, but a necessity for survival.

Due to constant power cuts, people are massively installing solar panels, batteries, and inverters on the rooftops of apartment blocks and houses. In some districts of Aleppo and Damascus, almost every rooftop is now covered with panels.

Paradoxically, a country devastated by war and crisis has become one of the most decentralized energy landscapes in the region - people simply created their own electricity system themselves.
