Suez Canal incident .. The owner of "Evergiven" asks the owners of shipments "to share compensation." And the company, "Choi Kisen Kaisha Ltd." announced today, Friday, that it had asked the owners of the shipments to share the damages under a deal known as "declaration of general distress."

This type of transaction is often used in marine accidents that are covered by insurance, and it is stipulated that joint losses between the ship operator and the shippers cost them all and their burdens are distributed because of the general benefit it has for them.

The company stated that it had requested a number of owners of about 18 thousand containers on board the ship to bear part of the compensation that the Egyptian authorities request to pay against the background of the accident, totaling $ 916 million.

The company refused to disclose more details about the negotiations with the owners of the goods on board the ship, including the amount covered by the insurance and the percentage that the shippers are required to bear.

Earlier this month, the Japanese company confirmed that it is negotiating with the Egyptian authorities over the compensation request.

The company confirmed that Evergiven is still being held by the Egyptian authorities in the Great Bitter Lake, and that it will not be allowed to leave until a settlement is reached.
