Have you ever being in a situation where you notice you have a wild embedded talent but there is no clear avenue for it to shine? Have you ever found yourself in an environment where there is a huge limitation to being who you would love to be? Have you ever being in an area where everything you do or say sounds like impossible to many? If your answer to these questions is YES, then that
is exactly the story of my wonderful life – FKP House of Arts. As a young person growing up, I noticed I had a talent. Back in grade school, I was always looked up to by my friends in terms of drawings and fancy designs. I took it as a challenge and always took home my friends drawing assignments and spent the rest of the night making sure that I had their assignments done well. Upon graduation from high school, my quest to achieve my imbedded talent and goal grew even stronger and I was led by one of my friends to an Art Shop (Rainbow Printers, Red Light Market, Paynesville City, Montserrado County, Liberia, West Africa, Africa) based on my performances in high school. I happily went with him and was glad that I had a friend who knew what I was thinking about after graduation. Moreover, I was warmly welcomed by my new boss and was given lots of rules and regulations as a new entrant as usual. However, there were lots of advantages and disadvantages during my learning process. On the contrary, I sometimes starved through the day while in the Art Shop in order not to miss any part of the job’s learning trend. Going home late at night was the burden of my best friend always because whenever I was called upon to do a piece of job, I had to definitely complete it; this would make me walk from the Art Shop back home which was quite a distance away. In most instances, I was responsible for my feeding and transportations. I sometimes did not have enough money to take care of them both. What I used to preferably do was to have myself transported with the little and forget about the feeding because I had the hope that a friend would buy food and invite me to eat, hence my safety home was a priority considering the bright amazing future I envisaged to change the destiny of my family. If nothing as such took place, I would be left with no option but to eat my transportation and walk to get home, because I needed energy also to reach my goals. One day I said to myself, “I am tired of this whole back and forth movement and decided to forget about going to the Art Shop” but the more I thought so, the more I felt a burning desire to follow my destiny, dream, aspiration and goal cause I discovered I am the only light that my family seeks to find. NOW
After all the time and dedication I gave at the Art Shop, I guess it is gradually trying to pay off, as per the pictures uploaded, I have couple of jobs that I work on either for Free and/ or Fee, even with that I still have not relented on my efforts to still go back to my Art Shop Boss to help for free and intend learn more. FUTURE
Though many people might think it is impossible to pursue ones dreams in Fine Arts (Graphic Arts) to the latter especially in Africa. I am determined to get a Bachelor, Masters, and PhD and/ or even higher if there is any such in Fine Arts (Graphic Arts). I would make the best of any opportunity offered me by anyone who grasps, follows and needs to witness these dreams being made a reality. I am Francis Kullie Philips, a Liberian born and bred gentleman with strong determination to succeed defiling all odds in mighty artistic talents. I am the Dream Bearer of FKP House of Arts; come join me as we make the world appreciate artistic talents at its best.
